Chozas Carrascal 2006 El Cabernetf de Chozas Carrascal Cabernet Franc (Utiel-Requena)

  • Online Exclusive
  1. $49
An interesting if not exactly perfect Cab Franc from central Spain. It has some of the grape’s typical leafy dampness but in the mouth the wine is bright and brutally tannic, with blackberry, plum and cassis flavors. Ripe, chewy and meaty, with plenty of power and fruit but not a ton of finesse.  — M.S.  (10/1/2009)

Chozas Carrascal 2006 Las Dosces Red (Utiel-Requena)

  • Online Exclusive
  1. $13
By no means a special wine but it does deliver full-force if generic dark-fruit aromas and flavors. The nose is a little hard and rubbery, but that’s Utiel-Requena for you. Medium-bodied but not harsh or burnt; prune and blackberry flavors linger. Tempranillo and Syrah. Wines Imported by USA Wines Inc.  — M.S.  (10/1/2008)

Chozas Carrascal 2006 Las Tres White (Utiel-Requena)

  • Online Exclusive
  1. $22
So this is what Chardonnay, Macabeo and Sauvignon Blanc amount to when thrown together. The Three, or “Las Tres” if you prefer, is grabby and mealy, with thick, unfocused citrus flavors and then apple skins and bitterness on the finish. Too strange to rate higher. Already fading.  — M.S.  (4/1/2009)

Chozas Carrascal 2004 Las Ocho Red (Utiel-Requena)

  • Online Exclusive
  1. $25
Eight grapes comprise this weird, peanutty, almost dirty red blend. The nose is like a salad of bitter greens and peanut vinaigrette, and the palate shows big fruit, bigger tannins and then a finish of asparagus and green beans. Imported by USA Wines Inc.  — M.S.  (10/1/2008)
