Chumeia 2001 Dante Dusi Vineyard Zinfandel (Paso Robles)
Price
$22
Rich and plush on the nose, with a blend of earth and black cherry notes. Full bodied and showing ripe black cherry, licorice, raspberry, herb, spice and cedary notes. Tannins are round and the finish is moderate in length.

Chumeia 2000 Zinfandel (Paso Robles)
Price
$22
If you like Paso Zin, and a lot of people do, this one’s for you. It has the requisite flavors of wild berries and tobacco, with a rich streak of herbs and peppery spices, and is very dry and balanced. Drinks a bit hot but not enough to worry about.

Chumeia 2002 Simpson Vineyard Merlot (California)
Best Buy
Price
$12
A full-bodied, rich wine for those looking for a value. The blackberry, blueberry and cherry-chocolate flavors are melded into soft tannins, and finish long and spicy.

Chumeia 2002 Pinot Noir (Central Coast)

A nice, easy Pinot, with tart cherry, coffee and oak flavors that drink dry. You’ll find a silky texture and crisp, balancing acids.

Chumeia 2001 Simpson Vineyard Chardonnay (California)
Best Buy
Price
$10
Pretty rich for an inexpensive Chard, and a single vineyard one at that. Pleasant flavors of peaches and pears are framed in oak. There’s a slight burn in the finish, but it’s not too hot.

Chumeia 2000 Cabernet Sauvignon (Central Coast)
Price
$25
Decent and drinkable, with flavors of blackberries, green olives and sage, and a nice overlay of oak. Very dry, with a good balance of dusty tannins and acidity. Finishes just a bit rough and earthy.

Chumeia 2000 Cabernet Sauvignon (California)
Best Buy
Price
$10
Not bad for everyday quaffing, with some rich blackberry flavors and nice, dry tannins. It has a country-style edge of roughness to it, but all in all, this is a pretty good value in Cabernet.

Chumeia 2002 Partridge-Leigh Vineyard Barbera (Paso Robles)
Online Exclusive
Price
$25
Robust, full-bodied and bone dry, with baked cherry pie, black currant and mocha flavors accented by sweet toasty oak, this wine is wrapped in thick, jagged tannins. The best thing about it is the rich, ripe, deeply fruity flavors.
