Citille di Sopra 2007 Sangiovese Grosso (Brunello di Montalcino)

  • Cellar Selection
  1. $60
Inky-dark concentration segues to bold berry notes and loads of dark, deep fruit: plum, prune, blackberry and rum cake. There are also pretty dustings of dry mineral and dried herb at the back. This is a bold Brunello with power, determination, structure and balance. It needs at least 10 years of cellar aging.  — M.L.  (5/1/2012)

Citille di Sopra 2007 Vigna Poggio Ronconi Sangiovese Grosso (Brunello di Montalcino)

  1. $80
Big, bold and dark in style. Loads of exotic spice, soy sauce, Teriyaki, cured meat, ripe fruit and savory peppercorn. The mouthfeel is thick and soft. Definitely for those who like bold personality in their Tuscan red.  — M.L.  (5/1/2012)

Citille di Sopra 2004 Riserva Sangiovese Grosso (Brunello di Montalcino)

  • Cellar Selection
  1. $52
Here’s an intense and immediate Brunello Riserva that needs a few more years of cellar aging to soften its young tannins. There’s nice balance here between fruit notes and spice and the wine is generous, rich and silky on the close. Vanilla and vibrant cherry cap off the experience.  — M.L.  (10/1/2010)

Citille di Sopra 2007 Riserva Sangiovese Grosso (Brunello di Montalcino)

  1. $80
There’s a pristine quality to this wine that allows the focus to remain on the excellent quality of fruit on display here. That purity continues to the palate where the wine boasts bright acidity and finely polished tannins.  — M.L.  (5/1/2013)

Citille di Sopra 2005 Sangiovese (Brunello di Montalcino)

This is a gorgeous wine with loads of intensity and fruit. You can expect the wine to age many years in the cellar thanks to the integrity of the cherry, blackberry and plum flavors. In the mouth, the wine is soft, round and smooth although the tannins could use a few more years to soften.  — M.L.  (8/1/2010)

Citille di Sopra 2008 Sangiovese Grosso (Brunello di Montalcino)

  1. $55
This wine shows beautiful results with a darkly concentrated appearance and bright aromas of prune, leather and tobacco. The wine is balanced and crisp, with lingering red cherry and chocolate flavors, but ultimately the purity of wine puts it slightly ahead of this estates’s other vineyard-designate Brunello.  — M.L.  (5/1/2013)

Citille di Sopra 2001 Sangiovese (Brunello di Montalcino)

This Brunello takes a little while to open, but when it does it reveals vanilla wafers, herbs, roasted coffee bean, tannery smells, sweet bread, leather, earth and herbal notes. Engaging and complex with good structure and solid tannins.  — W.E.  (4/1/2006)

Citille di Sopra 2008 Vigna Poggio Ronconi Sangiovese Grosso (Brunello di Montalcino)

  1. $65
This vineyard-designate Brunello exhibits a dark, meaty style with thick concentration and a ruby color with amber highlights. The wine shows some pulpy fruit in the mouth, especially cherry, and smooth tannins. That soft dark fruit helps balance out the sharpness of the acidity.  — M.L.  (5/1/2013)
