Classic McLaren 2000 La Testa Shiraz (McLaren Vale)
Price
$78
This Shiraz offers over-the-top blackberry, raspberry and caramel flavors, with a chili-spicy kick, but doesn't quite have the plushness that such big flavors warrant. Stewy black and red berries on the nose have caramel nuances; heat (or is it jalapeño?) punctuates the finish.

Classic McLaren 2000 La Testa Cabernet Sauvignon (McLaren Vale)
Price
$41
Gives an overall impression of redness, from tomato and red fruit aromas on the nose to red plum, cherry and clay on the palate. Chewy in the mouth, it closes with more juicy fruit, clay and some herb.

Classic McLaren 2000 Cabernet Sauvignon-Merlot (McLaren Vale)
Price
$19
There’s a liberal dose of caramel, plus taut red plums, on the palate. Has smooth, oaky tannins; oak (in the form of Bourbon barrel and black pepper) is a key player on the palate as well.

Classic McLaren 2000 La Testa Merlot (McLaren Vale)
Price
$41
Medium-bodied with plum fruit that isn’t quite gloppy, but doesn’t seem to hang on a very structured frame. Tomato accents on the nose and palate suggest rather overtly that this Merlot may just be the wine that your arribiata sauce is looking for. - D.M.
