Climbing 2005 Cabernet Sauvignon (Orange)

  1. $14
With its slightly herbal overtones of oregano, this is a Bordeaux-like rendition of Cabernet Sauvignon; it’s also got the acid and tannic structure to set it apart from stereotypical New World Cabernets. It is firm and slightly drying on the finish, so pair it with rare roast beef or lamb for best effect.  — W.E.  (9/1/2007)

Climbing 2005 Shiraz (Orange)

  1. $14
Starts off smoky, with meat-like notes, then adds cola, blackberries and spice on the palate. It’s round in the mouth, with some dusty tannins and crisp acids on the finish, suggesting a pairing with richer cuts of beef or lamb. Drink now–2012.  — J.C.  (11/15/2007)

Climbing 2005 Chardonnay (Orange)

  1. $17
Like other Philip Shaw wines, this one has an ethereal quality to it that could be understood as elegant by one person and just too delicate by another. Very light vanilla and butterscotch aromas start things off, bringing soft melon and pear on board in the mouth. Soft around the edges with fine acidity; finishes with a sour citric note. Imported by Cumulus Wines Inc.  — D.T.  (8/1/2006)

Climbing 2006 Cabernet Sauvignon (Orange)

  1. $13
Fairly priced for what’s in the bottle, this is a bit edgier than your average Aussie Cabernet, with crisp acids outlining cassis fruit and tinged with tobacco. Fine-grained tannins impart a slightly dusty texture, while the finish features a hint of vanilla and juicy fruit.  — J.C.  (10/1/2009)

Climbing 2006 Chardonnay (Orange)

  1. $14
Starts off with smoke and apple scents, then adds flavors that are crisp and citrusy, with a touch of pineapple. It’s a clean, refreshing style of Chardonnay without too much vanilla or toast.  — W.E.  (9/1/2007)

  1. $13
This Merlot is so gently extracted it’s almost Pinot Noir-like, with delicate cherry and beet aromas and a noticeable herbal tinge to the dark cherry fruit.  — J.C.  (5/1/2009)

Climbing 2006 Pinot Grigio (Orange)

  1. $14
There’s a light salmon hue to this wine, but along with that lovely color has come some slightly bitter notes from skin contact. Red apple, melon and pear flavors are carried by a plump-textured wine with a touch of tannin. Drink now.  — W.E.  (9/1/2007)
