Clos de L'Oratoire des Papes 2003 Red (Châteauneuf-du-Pape)
Price
$35
This reasonably priced Châteauneuf is intense and flavorful, yet holds onto a sense of elegance and proportion, something that’s not always easy in a sun-baked vintage like 2003. Cherries and black cherries come rushing across the palate in waves, garnished by little curls of cinnamon and clove. Long on the finish, picking up subtle hints of bacon or wood smoke…

Clos de L'Oratoire des Papes 2006 Red (Châteauneuf-du-Pape)
Online Exclusive
Price
$40
Starts with a blast of liqueur-like black cherries and raisin, then adds dustings of cinnamon and clove to give it a modicum of complexity. Lush, creamy in texture and mouthfilling, it's a fine Châteauneuf-du-Pape for near-term enjoyment.

Clos de L'Oratoire des Papes 2001 Red (Châteauneuf-du-Pape)
Price
$34
Starts with smoky, leathery aromas, then moves on to scents of sun-baked stones. Mouthfilling dark, brandied cherries follow, finishing with a spike of acidity and firm tannins. Drink this full-bodied wine from 2007–2015.

Clos de L'Oratoire des Papes 2000 Red (Châteauneuf-du-Pape)
Price
$28
More harmonious at this stage than the property’s Les Choregies luxury cuvée, this wine’s supple black cherry and dark chocolate flavors are framed by earthy, leathery notes that culiminate in a complex finish of coffee, earth and juicy fruit.

Clos de L'Oratoire des Papes 2000 Les Choregies Red (Châteauneuf-du-Pape)
Price
$75
More extracted and oakier than Clos de L’Oratoire’s regular cuvée, this is a chunky, corpu ent wine that displays plenty of cedary oak layered over prunes and black cherries. Moderately tannic, and worth holding to a few years to see if I’ve underestimated it’s potential.
