Clos LaChance Winery started in 1987 when Bill and Brenda Murphy planted a few rows of Chardonnay in their backyard in Saratoga, California. A few years later, the couple realized their wines were good enough to sell; and in 1992, Clos LaChance became a commercial venture. Since then, the Murphy’s have turned their fledgling 200-case company into an 80,000-case operation. Family-owned and -operated, Clos LaChance is also certified sustainable and a member of the California Sustainable Winegrowing Alliance. The winery has three different lines on the market: Estate, Reserve and Designate. The Reserve and Designate selections tend to be the top-rated bottlings, while the Estate line is value driven. Many varietals are used to create the Clos LaChance wines, including Cabernet Sauvignon, Chardonnay, Grenache, Syrah and Petite Syrah.
