  • Cellar Selection
  1. $40
Black as ink, this is a rich and beautifully smooth, concentrated wine. It has weight and depth of flavor, with cinnamon and finely integrated opulent fruit and tannins. This is a wine for aging over several years.  — R.V.  (6/1/2012)

Clos Troteligotte 2009 K-Lys Malbec (Cahors)

  • Editors' Choice
  1. $24
A wine that shows its wood aging from the mint aromas and dark, dry texture. At this young stage, the 18-month barrel aging weighs heavily on the fruit, but this should certainly soften after 3–4 years. An impressive wine showing the richness of 2009.  — R.V.  (6/1/2012)

Clos Troteligotte 2005 K Lys Malbec (Cahors)

This is wonderfully rich and dense, with dry and dusty tannins that float in the depths of the powerful black fruits, well integrated with the wood. This is impressive Malbec, showing its juicy qualities allied with its huge tannins. It could do with 3–4 years’ aging.  — R.V.  (11/1/2008)

Clos Troteligotte 2011 K2 Malbec (Cahors)

  1. $80
With its rich fruit and raisin flavors, think of this as a dry Port. It is all about forward fruit that manages to dominate the wine’s tannins. Drink now, or age for a few years.  — R.V.  (6/1/2012)

Clos Troteligotte 2006 CQFD Malbec (Cahors)

  • Editors' Choice
CQFD means Charte de Qualité Fûts de Chêne (oak barrels), two concepts in one wine. The flavors are of the richest fruit, freshened with acidity and enveloped in tannins. It is dark, a solid wall of flavor, finishing with a chink of light and acidity.  — R.V.  (2/1/2010)

  1. $32
Deep colored, wood aged Malbec that gives powerful and dense tannins and concentrated black berry and plum flavors. The wine is deeply mineral, edging on austere, but still packed with richness for the future. Keep 3–4 years.  — R.V.  (12/15/2010)

Clos Troteligotte 2009 K-Or Malbec (Cahors)

  1. $18
A big, bold wine that is full of dense fruit and sweet berry flavors. It has weight and richness, the structure stuffed with pure, ripe Malbec fruit that has not been in wood. Delicious and worth aging 2–3 years.  — R.V.  (6/1/2012)

Clos Troteligotte 2005 CQfd Malbec (Cahors)

The strange set of initials for Charte de Qualité, Fûts de Chêne (wood barrels). Emmanuel Rybinski worked in Australia and California, and this shows in the dominant use of wood. It cuts through the already rich Malbec fruit with its great juicy, black richness. With that weight of fruit, it should be worth waiting for the wood to calm down.  — R.V.  (11/1/2008)
