Cloudy Bay 2009 Sauvignon Blanc (Marlborough)

  • Online Exclusive
  1. $25
A lot has changed at Cloudy Bay, but the wine remains true to the style it helped establish as a worldwide classic. Pungent leafy aromas accent the gooseberry fruit, and while the wine offers ample body, it closes with crisp, lemony flavors.  — J.C.  (9/1/2010)

Cloudy Bay 2010 Pinot Noir (Marlborough)

  1. $35
New Zealand’s best known winery does a consistently good job with the Burgundian varieties, not just Sauvignon Blanc. The chunky, medium-bodied 2010 Pinot Noir displays ample intensity, length and complexity. Its savory style shows dark cherry fruit, with hints of mocha and grilled meat. Drink now–2020.  — J.C.  (4/1/2013)

Cloudy Bay 2003 Sauvignon Blanc (Marlborough)

  1. $29
Marlborough’s standard bearer is always reliable, even if it no longer stands far above the pack. The 2003 is a worthy effort, combining grassy, herbal notes with a core of grapefruit and gooseberry flavors. A safe, solid choice, with enough weight in the mouth to pair with a variety of foods.  — J.C.  (8/1/2004)

Cloudy Bay 2002 Pinot Noir (Marlborough)

  1. $29
Not a fruit bomb at all, featuring scents of cinnamon, clove, glove leather and herbs wrapped around a core of black cherries and cola. Amply complex, yet plump and easy to drink. Definitely user friendly.  — J.C.  (8/1/2004)

Cloudy Bay 2003 Pinot Noir (Marlborough)

  1. $29
With a core fashioned from older clonal material, this wine doesn’t have quite the same vibrancy and fruit of some flashier counterparts. What it does have is some wonderful underbrushy complexity: earth, mushrooms, bracken and spice, balanced by just enough cola and cherry fruit. Finishes wiry and a bit herbal.  — W.E.  (12/15/2005)

Cloudy Bay 2004 Chardonnay (Marlborough)

  • Online Exclusive
  1. $29
Cloudy Bay is better known for its Sauvignon Blanc, but their Chardonnay is dependably good as well. This vintage seems a little lighter than previous efforts, but it still offers flavorful notes of cashew butter atop a base of pineapple and lemon fruit. Imported by Moët Hennessy USA.  — J.C.  (9/1/2006)

An elegantly crafted Chardonnay that marries vanillin oak with crisp, citrusy flavors. It’s medium-bodied, with a slightly creamy texture akin to lemon custard yet stays refreshing through the finish. Drink now through 2010.  — J.C.  (9/1/2008)
