Coastal Ridge 2010 Moscato (California)
Best Buy
Price
$8
With distinctly sweet flavors that cross over beyond off dry, this pleasantly tart Moscato is best thought of as a dessert wine. It has savory flavors of oranges, honey and vanilla.

Coastal Ridge 2001 Merlot (Napa Valley)
Best Buy
Price
$7
This is a very likeable wine for its deep flavors of blackberries, plums and mocha, and rich texture. Doesn’t have a lot of depth, but you’ll be pleasantly surprised at what you get for the price. A fantastic value.

Coastal Ridge 2000 Cabernet Sauvignon (California)
Best Buy
Price
$7
Impresses for its pretty flavors and smooth texture. Blackcurrant, blackberry jam, cola and smoky oak mingle to create a rich impression. A bit simple on the finish, but good value.

Coastal Ridge 1999 Cabernet Sauvignon (California)
Best Buy
Price
$7
There’s a rough, edgy quality to this affordable wine, with sharp acids and tannins, but it’s dry and clean and will satisfy unless you’re really picky. In fact the dryness is downright refreshing, when so many Cabernets these days drink sweet. Best Buy.

Coastal Ridge 2003 Shiraz (California)
Best Buy
Price
$7
Nilla Wafers or graham crackers accent candied raspberry fruit in this lightweight but enjoyable quaffer. Not complex or concentrated, just good, everyday wine at a bargain price.

Coastal Ridge 1999 Chardonnay (California)
Best Buy
Price
$6
Anything remotely resembling true Chardonnay at this price is rare, but here’s one that succeeds, if at the most elemental level. It’s got proper apple and peach fruit and the requisite amount of vanilla-tinged oak, although probably not from new French barrels. It’s a tiny bit sweet, but hey, that’s the way people like it. And it’s very clean. All of which makes…

I’m giving this wine a qualified recommendation because the fruit is so pretty. It’s all black cherries. Yes, it’s rustic, but you can’t beat the price.

Coastal Ridge 1998 Merlot (California)
Best Buy
Price

It’s pretty pale for Merlot and light in aroma, too, with a trace of black cherry or blackberry and oak. The flavors are similarly light and modest. It’s very dry and clean and well-made. At this price, it’s a good value in Merlot. Best Buy.
