Condado de Oriza 2005 Crianza Red (Ribera del Duero)
Best Buy
Price
$13
Sensational for the price. This die-hard bargain is loaded with berry richness, sweet pulp, coconut and balance. It’s a little creamy, but generous and integrated. Smells, tastes and finishes like something that costs three times more.

Condado de Oriza 2006 Crianza Tempranillo (Ribera del Duero)

Price
$14
Floral at first, with dark fruit, leather, earth and roasted meat aromas. The mouthfeel is rich and the balance right, while the flavors of black cherry and blackberry are deep, ripe and defined. Chocolaty and thick on the finish; this wine is offering a lot for the price. Drink now through 2011.

Condado de Oriza 2004 409 Red (Ribera del Duero)
Price
$79
The name reflects the number of days the wine spent in oak, and for sure there’s no shortage of bacon, mocha and vanilla on the nose. This is a ripe, big-boned wine that’s chewy but also a little tannic, acidic and scratchy. It’s not 100% in harmony, but what’s here is very good and succulent. There’s always a fine line between what’s good and excellent, and this…

Condado de Oriza 2006 Reserva Tempranillo (Ribera del Duero)
Opens in good form, with aromas of blackberry, rubber and earth. Feels a touch chunky and heavy, but it’s easygoing and offers full flavors of berry fruits, rubber, hoisin sauce and fig. Finishes smooth and round; drink now.

Condado de Oriza 2006 Roble Tempranillo (Ribera del Duero)
Best Buy
Price
$10
Here’s a highly recommended, everyday Ribera del Duero wine that starts with a full, round nose of charcoal, wild berry patch and oak. The oak, however, is tame (just three months of barrel time for this youngster) not forced, thus the cherry and raspberry fruit has vibrancy and balance.

Condado de Oriza 2003 Reserva Tempranillo (Ribera del Duero)
Online Exclusive
Price
$25
Spicy wood notes and black fruit vie for center stage on the ripe, semimature bouquet. This is more of a traditional Ribera wine, meaning it has textured tannins, notes of tobacco and dill, and leathery, earthy berry fruit flavors. Not at all rough and ready to drink now, but still it should hold into 2009.

Condado de Oriza 2004 Crianza Red (Ribera del Duero)
Price
$15
For Ribera del Duero, this is a very good value. The wine shows some early sulfur and gaseous aromas, but with time those scents fade away and what’s left is a medium-to-deep Tempranillo with a hint of sharpness but mostly dark fruit and stacked, chewy tannins. Drinking this for $15 should elicit a lot of bargain-driven satisfaction.

Condado de Oriza 2004 Reserva Tempranillo (Ribera del Duero)
Price
$23
Coconut and vanilla aromas ride front and center on the oaky nose, although berry fruit rises up with time. The palate is bulky and saturated, almost what you’d call thick, while the flavors lean toward roasted berry, plum and woodspice. Vanilla and additional wood accents work the finish.
