Conterno Fantino 2005 Mosconi Nebbiolo (Barolo)

  1. $105
Barolo Mosconi drinks young at this stage but already paints a pretty picture of the 2005 vintage. The wine offers direct intensity and layered aromas of luscious chocolate and coffee with loads of spice, leather and tar on the finish. The tannins are still a bit aggressive, so give this wine time to age: Drink after 2018.  — M.L.  (4/1/2009)

Conterno Fantino 2001 Sorí Ginestra Nebbiolo (Barolo)

  1. $99
Full-bodied and richly textured, this wine nevertheless retains the essence of Nebbiolo in its delicately floral aromas and complex flavors. Cherries, plums and prunes all mingle on the palate, picking up nuances of vanilla and spice. Long and silky on the finish. Drink 2009–2016. Imported by Empson (USA) Ltd.  — J.C.  (3/1/2006)

Conterno Fantino 2000 Parussi Nebbiolo (Barolo)

  1. $81
Boasts knock-out aromas of flowers and herbs—a haunting perfume that adds cherry and balsamic notes as it develops. It’s not a blockbuster on the palate, but relies on silkiness and finesse to make an impression, its long finish couched in supple tannins.  — J.C.  (11/15/2004)

Conterno Fantino 2005 Sorí Ginestra Nebbiolo (Barolo)

  1. $112
Sorí Ginestra plays with wild berries, bramble, exotic spice, leather and toasted almond to produce a linear, elegant wine. The fruit is bitter in the mouth and the wine has good acidity that suggests a long life of bottle aging ahead. Pair it with duck roasted with scallions of black truffle. Drink after 2018.  — M.L.  (4/1/2009)

Conterno Fantino 2002 Monprá Nebbiolo (Langhe)

  1. $46
Marked by 18 months in oak, this blend of Nebbiolo, Barbera and Cabernet Sauvignon boasts scents of coffee, leather, vanilla and humus. Creamy-textured, with tremendously supple tannins, it’s flashy, but don’t be deceived—there’s a deep core of cherry fruit at its center. Drink now–2010. Conterno Fantino 2005 Vigna del Gris Nebbiolo (Barolo)

  • Online Exclusive
  1. $103
Elegant and streamlined in the mouth, this expression from the Vigna del Gris vineyard shows many little aromas of wild berry, bramble, plum, licorice and leather that together form a comprehensive and intense whole. There’s a touch of mature strawberry as well and the wine shows the astringent tannins of a wine that will age. Drink after 2018.  — M.L.  (4/1/2009)
