Corte San Benedetto 2004 Red (Amarone della Valpolicella Classico)
. Big, lively and very intense, this powerful Amarone opens with a blast of blackberry, spice, vanilla, chocolate, leather and tobacco aromas. It shows sticky, extracted concentration in the mouth and ripe, succulent flavors of jammy fruit and cherry liqueur. It’s a huge wine from all points of view.

Corte San Benedetto 2005 Red (Valpolicella Classico Superiore Ripasso)
This is a gorgeous Ripasso (from a small, new producer) with thick aromatic layers of candied fruit, dried flowers, cola, mesquite and cedar wood. In all, it is an inky, well-extracted wine but at the same time is shows a bright, buoyant quality with immediate flavors and a bright close. —M.L.
