Covey Run

Located within the appellations of the Yakima and Columbia Valley, Covey Run Winery has been producing value wine since 1982. Covey Run Vineyards are protected by the Cascade Mountain Range which provides a high altitude desert climate where grapes can fully ripen. Covey Run’s main vineyard for their red varietal plantings is Alder Ridge while the Oasis Vineyard is home to the majority of Covey Run’s white wines, specifically Chardonnay and Riesling. While the majority of Covey Run wines are made from Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Syrah, Chardonnay, Riesling, Gewurztraminer, Semillon and Sauvignon Blanc, they are also experimenting with newer plantings of Viognier, Barbera, Zinfandel, Mourvedre and Roussanne. The Covey Run Quail Series offers an affordable option for consumers while their Columbia Valley Reserve line tends to receive higher accolades and carry a bit of a higher price tag according to our Covey Run ratings. Covey Run Winery also sponsors The Covey Run, a race benefiting uncompensated care at Seattle Children's Hospital. For more information on the winery and their wines take a look through our Covey Run Reviews.

Covey Run 2004 Chenin Blanc (Columbia Valley (WA))

  • Best Buy
  1. $8
A superior Chenin that doesn’t denigrate the floral elegance of the grape. Juicy with melons, tangerines and sweet pear. A lovely wine with a hint (1.4%) of residual sugar.  — P.G.  (12/15/2005)

Covey Run 2003 Reserve Chardonnay (Columbia Valley (WA))

  1. $22
Rich and intense, it’s packed with buttery toasty scents of roasted hazelnuts, floral highlights (jasmine) and clean apple, citrus and pear fruit. Despite the big oak flavors, it keeps its acidity front and center and its flavors lifted.  — P.G.  (10/1/2006)

Covey Run 1997 Newhouse Vineyard Aligoté (Yakima Valley)

  1. $14
One of the few American versions of this Burgundy wine you will find, and quite well made. Kudos to this Washington winery and vineyard for giving us the perfect foil to curry and Chinese food, raw oysters or light fish like sole or scrod. On its own it is quite lean and outright acidic. Yet there are some sweeter lemon-lime notes and a touch of marzipan. And you…  — M.S.  (11/1/1999)

Covey Run 1998 Chardonnay (Columbia Valley (WA))

  • Best Buy
  1. $10
This wine sports a green-apple and pear nose with some extra weight from barrel fermentation. Well-balanced and right on the border between stainless- steel and barrel-fermented styles: steel meets butter on the palate. Best Buy.  — P.G.  (11/15/2000)

Covey Run 2002 Dry Riesling

  • Best Buy
  1. $7
It says “dry” right there on the label, but it’s got a lot of fruit sweetness to it. A juicy, generous, spicy wine that ought to be served well-chilled, with noodle dishes and hot stuff.  — P.G.  (12/31/2003)

Covey Run 2002 Gewürztraminer

  • Best Buy
  1. $7
Fresh and forward, bursting with floral and citrus scents and ripe, semi-tropical flavors. A splash of Muscat Canelli in the blend brings up the orange blossom and tangerine flavors.  — P.G.  (12/31/2003)

Covey Run 2002 Reserve Chardonnay (Yakima Valley)

  1. $22
Rich, oaky, barrel- fermented flavors accent sweet/tart fruit. Nicely done, soft and round, but avoiding the over-the-top heat and heaviness of comparable California bottlings.  — P.G.  (9/1/2004)
