Covington Cellars 2008 Viognier (Columbia Valley (WA))

  1. $20
Nice fruit flavors show yellow fruits, stone fruits, some melon and hints of apricot. The wine is 100% varietal, 13.5% alcohol, and sourced from the Upland vineyard on Snipes Mountain. Overall good balance and length.  — P.G.  (12/1/2009)

Covington Cellars 2005 Artisan Series Cabernet Sauvignon (Red Mountain)

  • Online Exclusive
  1. $55
Covington’s reserve wine is a Bordeaux blend of 75% Cabernet Sauvignon, 15% Merlot, 7% Cabernet Franc and 3% Malbec. Raspberry and cherry fruit is buttressed with underpinnings of iron ore, showing a lot of Red Mountain typicity, and fills in the midpalate with soft barrel flavors of toast and caramel.  — P.G.  (12/1/2009)

Covington Cellars 2006 Artisan Series Cabernet Sauvignon (Red Mountain)

  • Online Exclusive
  1. $55
2006 is a tighter, higher acid vintage than 2005, and the resulting wine has a compact sleekness. Hard raspberry candy fruit runs right into stiff tannins; it seems impenetrable until it’s been open for some hours.  — P.G.  (12/1/2009)

Covington Cellars 2006 Cabernet Franc (Columbia Valley (WA))

  • Online Exclusive
  1. $35
This pure Cabernet Franc is Covington’s most interesting and distinctive red. It delivers plump, ripe, spicy flavors of mixed berries. The French and American barrels bring more spice and toast, and the exit is soft and pleasing.  — P.G.  (12/1/2009)

Covington Cellars 2006 Viognier (Columbia Valley (WA))

  • Online Exclusive
  1. $19
The emphasis here is squarely on the fruit, which is fresh and varietal, carrying flavors of apricot, peach and apple. Pleasing aromas support the impression of ripe stone fruit, with moderate alcohol and none of the bitterness that Viognier can show in the finish.  — P.G.  (12/1/2007)

Covington Cellars 2006 Sémillon (Columbia Valley (WA))

  1. $24
The wine is almost honey-colored, and scented with sweet hay and clover. That impression of sweet grass carries over into the mouth, and it adds life and lift to the rather rich and heavy fruit. Don’t look for it to improve or to age beyond a year or two. The blend includes 7% Sauvignon Blanc.  — P.G.  (12/1/2007)

Covington Cellars 2006 Tuscan Red (Columbia Valley (WA))

  • Online Exclusive
  1. $35
Mostly Sangiovese, with 20% Cabernet Franc and 10% Cabernet Sauvignon, it’s rather soft and open, with strawberry fruit and a lightly toasty finish.  — P.G.  (12/1/2009)

Covington Cellars 2006 Malbec (Columbia Valley (WA))

  • Online Exclusive
  1. $35
This pretty Malbec shows genuine varietal character, and seems less oxidized than some of the other red wines from Covington Cellars. There is more fresh, primary fruit flavor—plum and apple—boosted by firm acids.  — P.G.  (12/1/2009)
