Crichton Hall 2001 Reflexion Merlot-Cabernet Sauvignon (Napa Valley)

  1. $75
This stunningly rich and good Merlot-Cabernet blend has a splash of Cab Franc and Syrah, but it’s very tannic. Yet beneath the tannins is a solid vein of black cherry, currant, plum, chocolate and spice flavors. Enjoy it now in its youth, or age past 2010.  — S.H.  (11/15/2004)

Crichton Hall 1995 Merlot (Napa Valley)

  1. $26
Molasses and dark spices commingle in this almost syrupy beauty. Black fruit with nice concentration provides the necessary balance. Very forward with a silky, fabulous finish. Very classy with fruit from Carneros and Yountville.  — M.S.  (6/1/1999)

Crichton Hall 1996 Chardonnay (Napa Valley)

  1. $22
Toasty, but mostly vivid and light in the mouth. Appley fruit with more bottle-related maturity than the younger wine. Shoots for Burgundy and comes very, very close. Highly recommended.  — M.S.  (6/1/1999)

Crichton Hall 1997 Chardonnay (Napa Valley)

  1. $22
From this producer’s 17-acre estate vineyard, a 100 percent barrel-fermented wine showing a sweet nose of peaches, pears and apple pie. Dry and fruity at the same time. Lush, soft and showing all the signs of long fermentation. Burgundian in style with a creamy, vanilla-tinged aftertaste. Will be released this summer. 3,000 cases made.  — M.S.  (6/1/1999)

Crichton Hall 1996 Merlot (Napa Valley)

  1. $26
Bright and minty; a real cheek-grabber. Young tannins make this a heavyweight. A backbone of cherry and cedar with violet aromas. Mighty Merlot from the Truchard vineyards in Carneros, with some Yountville fruit as well. About 15 percent Cabernets Franc and Sauvignon added for power and balance.  — M.S.  (6/1/1999)

Crichton Hall 2003 Truchard Vineyard Pinot Noir (Carneros)

  1. $32
This is a fine vineyard and this is a very good Pinot. It’s dry and full-bodied, and flamboyant in cherry pie flavors enriched with vanilla and toast from oak. There’s a rich inner structure of acidity and tannin. Good now with a nice steak, but should develop well over the next five years.  — S.H.  (3/1/2006)

Crichton Hall 2000 Pinot Noir (Carneros)

  1. $32
Very inviting, displaying unique, appealing orange-clove, even peach-like aromatics over a cherry fruit core. Clove, anise, caramel and earth accents show on the smooth, structured palate. Good focus and an even mouthfeel give this lanky wine great appeal all the way through its long, smoke and anise-tinged finish.  — W.E.  (10/1/2002)

Crichton Hall 2001 Truchard Vineyard Pinot Noir (Carneros)

  1. $32
You can tell from the pale color that this is a delicate, light-bodied wine, and it is. It’s silky and crisp, and feels weightless on the palate. The flavors? Ripe cherries and raspberries, drizzled with vanilla. The sweetness of the fruit creates weight of its own.  — S.H.  (12/1/2004)
