Cristobal 1492 2008 Bonarda (Mendoza)

  • Best Buy
  1. $11
A pure, sweet, easygoing, full-bodied red wine with tons of boysenberry, currant and chocolaty aromas and flavors. Dark and saturated in the mouth, with a bouncy palate, youthful but tolerable tannins, and a fudge-infused finish. Shines a positive light on varietal Bonarda.  — M.S.  (5/1/2010)

Cristobal 1492 2003 Oak Reserve Malbec (Mendoza)

  1. $15
Toasty and smoky, with rubber and powerful dark-fruit aromas. Plum and black cherry work the palate, while on the back end black fruit is spiced up by strong hints of pepper. Standard but good; plump and satisfying. Imported by Global Wine Imports LLC.  — M.S.  (11/15/2005)

Cristobal 1492 2003 Bonarda (Mendoza)

  • Best Buy
  1. $10
Violet and rich to the eye, with full-force boysenberry aromas. Aggressive and full-bodied, with rubbery tannins and massive flavors of bacon, molasses and black fruits. Very good Bonarda, a grape that usually fails to impress. And for the price it’s well worth a try. Imported by Global Wine Imports LLC.  — M.S.  (11/15/2005)

Cristobal 1492 2003 Cabernet Sauvignon (Mendoza)

Good color and condensed, with a lot of tar and rubber. In the mouth, there’s brightness as well as flavors of cherry and raspberry. Finishes creamy, with a shot of coconut. Imported by Global Wine Imports LLC.  — M.S.  (11/15/2005)

Cristobal 1492 2007 Cabernet Sauvignon (Mendoza)

  1. $11
Smoky and rubbery on the nose, with some green oak aromas. The palate has a soft, pasty quality to it as well as flavors of black cherry and mildly roasted berries. Finishes sort of bland and slightly herbal. Good but entirely basic in its approach.  — M.S.  (7/1/2010)

Cristobal 1492 2008 Malbec (Mendoza)

  • Best Buy
  1. $10
Slightly minty at first, with resiny oak, berry and mild leafy aromas. Things fall into line with airing, and the palate of savory, barrel-accented berry fruit is mildly herbal but solid. A little drying and leafy but pretty good overall.  — M.S.  (2/1/2010)

Cristobal 1492 2004 Verdelho (Mendoza)

  1. $10
Floral and different, with papaya, peach and melon. This is not Spanish-style Verdejo, which is much more racy and acidic. This one is soft, smooth, a bit flat and flabby, but nonetheless it grows on you. Imported by Global Wine Imports LLC.  — M.S.  (11/15/2005)

Cristobal 1492 2008 1492 Red (Mendoza)

  • Online Exclusive
  1. $8
Warm, baked and a little cheesy, but if you get past the wine’s minor faults and consider its price, it rates well. Along with heat-based aromas, there is rubber and generic dark berry, while the palate is snappy, tight and tastes of raspberry, strawberry and vanilla. A blend of Merlot, Bonarda and Sangiovese.  — M.S.  (12/1/2009)
