Crocker & Starr 2005 Stone Place Cabernet Sauvignon (St. Helena)

  1. $90
Made in a fat, fleshy style, this estate Cab comes from older vines. It shows a fruity intensity of black and red currants conjoined with just the right proportion of smoky new French oak. Complex and compelling, it will age for many years.  — S.H.  (4/1/2009)

Crocker & Starr 2006 Bridesmaid Red Cabernet Sauvignon (Napa Valley)

  1. $39
Fat, fleshy and opulent, a Marilyn Monroe type of wine with enough curves to dazzle. Appeals immediately for its rich, saturated blackberry and cherry flavors, wrapped into soft, velvety tannins. There’s an inherent firmness that should allow this Cabernet to age gracefully into middle age.  — S.H.  (5/1/2011)

Crocker & Starr 2004 Stone Place Cabernet Sauvignon (St. Helena)

  1. $90
Made in a forward, approachable style, this Cab has succulent flavors of red currants, cherry liqueur, plums, chocolate and a hint of savory wintergreen. The tannins are thick and young, but very fine and sweet, with no trace of unripeness. Great with a charbroiled steak.  — S.H.  (5/1/2008)

Crocker & Starr 2003 Sauvignon Blanc (Napa Valley)

  1. $23
Clean and pretty with some weight to the stone-fruit dominated nose. Clearly from the meaty, ripe-fruit school of thought, with honeysuckle, spiced pear, citrus and minerality molding the palate. Lengthy and large on the finish, with anisette and a hint of alcohol.  — W.E.  (7/1/2005)

Crocker & Starr 2007 Stone Place Cabernet Sauvignon (St. Helena)

  1. $90
A big, extracted and, as currently constructed, somewhat ponderous wine that’s not showing all that well. Could simply be immature, but it does seem to lack a certain vibrancy. Other than that, it’s powerful in blackberry, black cherry and oak flavors, accompanied by strong tannins. Could surprise after, say, 2014.  — S.H.  (5/1/2011)

Crocker & Starr 2003 Stone Place Red (Napa Valley)

  1. $65
Showing an earthiness to the cherries, plums and black currants, with a rich array of fresh thyme and sage, this wine, mainly Cabernet, is young and closed now, with solid tannins. But it’s polished and elegant and balanced, and the fruit is there for modest aging. Best 2007–2012.  — S.H.  (4/1/2007)

  1. $28
A nice, polished Sauvignon Blanc for drinking now. With a softly creamy mouthfeel, it shows pleasant lemon, lime and vanilla flavors.  — S.H.  (4/1/2011)
