Cumbre of Vine Hill 2006 Hicks Family Vineyard Pinot Noir (Santa Cruz Mountains)

  1. $59
Shows the dramatic way that this mountainous region south of San Francisco can ripen Pinot Noir to such perfection. Brilliant in raspberry, cherry, sassafras, mocha, anise and cinnamon flavors, with rich notes of smoky cedar, it shows enough tannins to age it for a few years.  — S.H.  (7/1/2009)

Cumbre of Vine Hill 2006 Raffaelli Vineyard Pinot Noir (Santa Cruz Mountains)

  1. $59
This is a very good wine, but judging from the acidity and tannins, it will benefit with some time in the cellar. Dry and silky, it shows rich flavors of raspberries, cherries, currants, chocolate-covered mints, anise and cedar that are lush and decadent. Decant now, and should come into its own in mid-2010.  — S.H.  (7/1/2009)

  1. $59
A very rich and intricate Pinot Noir, full-bodied and fairly tannic, yet with a delicately silky texture. Shows fully-ripened fruit flavors of cherries and raspberries, with spice and oak complexities. Good now, but could blossom after 2012–2013.  — S.H.  (2/1/2011)

Cumbre of Vine Hill 2007 Hicks Family Vineyard Pinot Noir (Santa Cruz Mountains)

  1. $59
This has been the winery’s best Pinot Noir, and it shows its superiority once again in the richness and excellent structure. Appeals immediately for intricate raspberry, cherry, mineral and sandalwood flavors, then further inspires for the complex tannin and acid interplay. These mountain Pinots age well. Drink now–2015.  — S.H.  (2/1/2011)

Cumbre of Vine Hill 2006 Pinot Noir (Santa Cruz Mountains)

  1. $49
A beautiful young Pinot Noir, gorgeously structured in acids and tannins, and intricately layered. Assaults the palate with grilled raspberries and cherries, with notes of mocha, anise and pepper. Just lovely with a great steak.  — S.H.  (7/1/2009)

Cumbre of Vine Hill 2007 Barrel 31 Pinot Noir (Santa Cruz Mountains)

  1. $59
A little sharp in the mouth, with a bite of citrusy acidity, but the cherry, cola, pomegranate and sandalwood flavors are very rich, and the texture is silky. The acidity could resolve in a few years. Best by 2012 or so.  — S.H.  (5/1/2010)
