Cycles Gladiator 2005 Cabernet Sauvignon (Central Coast)

  • Best Buy
  1. $10
It’s not quite a cult Napa Cab, but you’d be surprised how close the profile fits with this soft, sumptuous wine. Like its competitors costing 10 times as much, it’s velvety smooth, with enormously ripe cassis, milk chocolate, cherry pie, vanilla and cinnamon spice flavors. At this price, it’s a steal, and easy to find, with 15,000 cases produced.  — S.H.  (7/1/2007)

Cycles Gladiator 2005 Syrah (Central Coast)

  • Best Buy
  1. $10
If you like your big reds in the New World style, this one’s for you. It’s soft, creamy and voluptuous, almost sweet in milk chocolate, black cherry-pie filling, cassis and spicy vanilla flavors. With 65% new French oak, this is really a great price for this kind of wine.  — S.H.  (7/1/2007)

Cycles Gladiator 2005 Merlot (Central Coast)

  • Best Buy
  1. $10
What an interesting wine this is. Classic California Merlot, soft and rich, with a burst of cherry, raspberry and mocha flavors, and spicy, smoky vanilla from considerable new oak. But the addition of Petite Sirah, Syrah and Cab Sauvignon give it added depth, texture and nuance. At this price, stock up by the case.  — S.H.  (7/1/2007)

Cycles Gladiator 2008 Pinot Grigio (Central Coast)

  • Best Buy
  1. $10
A very nice white wine whose fruity essence shines through without oak influence. It’s bright in acid-inspired pineapple, lime, kiwi, tangerine and honeysuckle flavors, enriched with a hint of vanilla.  — S.H.  (4/1/2010)

Cycles Gladiator 2005 Pinot Noir (Central Coast)

  1. $14
This is the first Cycles Pinot I’ve had, and it’s solidly in line with their philosophy of value. It shows good cool climate character, with crisp acids and a silky texture framing cherry, black raspberry, cola and oaky spice flavors. This is a great everyday introduction to the seductive mysteries of Pinot Noir.  — S.H.  (6/1/2007)

Cycles Gladiator 2008 Pinot Noir (California)

  1. $11
One of the best inexpensive Pinot Noirs on the market, which is quite an achievement considering that most at this price are awful. The wine is dry and silky, with pleasant flavors of cola, cherries and spice.  — S.H.  (4/1/2010)

Cycles Gladiator 2007 Merlot (California)

  • Best Buy
  1. $10
Doesn’t have quite the concentration of many more expensive Merlots, but fills a nice niche in an affordable red wine that’s full-bodied, dry and elegant. Offers pleasant flavors of cherries, red currants, cola and oak.  — S.H.  (4/1/2010)

Cycles Gladiator 2008 Chardonnay (Central Coast)

  • Best Buy
  1. $10
A very rich wine, courtesy of some Viognier and Pinot Gris, not to mention new oak. Offers flattering flavors of pineapples, golden mangoes, vanilla cream, buttered toast and honeysuckle flowers.  — S.H.  (4/1/2010)
