The old vine fruit adds subtle complexity to this elegant Pinot. Sappy, tangy, nicely balanced, with strawberries and cherries the dominant fruit flavors. This needs to be decanted, or perhaps cellared. It can certainly age for a decade or more.

This is eastern Oregon Syrah, a completely different (and to my taste, far superior) style than the better-known southern Oregon Syrahs. Aromatically rich with smoked meat, tobacco, thyme, sage, berries and a dash of Kahlúa, it is nonetheless balanced and not too alcoholic. The tobacco scents translate into a lovely streak of flavor that runs through the wine.

The Labyrinth Pinot Noir displays excellent grip and structure, with crisp red berry fruits. A distinctive, slightly metallic note runs through the core—not offensive, but it gives the wine a raspberries and iron filings flavor that will please some tasters more than others.

Another beauty from Oregon, this detailed (almost pointillist) effort is like a tapestry woven of citrus, grapefruit, pears and spice, then soaked in wet stones. Subtle and penetrating.

For those with a serious sweet tooth, this checks in with residual sugar at 23%! Decadent, sugary, intense, and expansive, with a mix of honey, butterscotch and caramel.

Daedalus is a very talented young winery making brilliant wines at sensible prices. The sources for this wine include Carabella, Momtazi, Maresh and Seven Springs, all superior vineyards. Winemaker Aron Hess is one of Oregon’s rising stars. Sweet fruit, dried herbs, sandalwood and spice in a clean, silky, seductive, well-rounded and seamless wine.

The Labyrinth bottling is made from older vines than the regular Pinot from Daedalus, and it is saturated with color and scents of mixed flowers. Rich, complex and textural, it adds unusual notes of mineral, hay and herb to the explosion of raspberry and cherry fruit.

Complex mixed stone fruits dappled with sweet cinnamon spice lead into a fairly lush midpalate. The dominant flavor is fresh cut pear, and the creamy texture spreads the flavors broadly through the mouth. A lovely wine to match with halibut or swordfish.
