Dao Sul

Since its inception in 1989, the mission of Dao Sul Wines has been to promote the Dão wines both nationally and internationally. With almost a dozen different wine producing estates and even more Dao Sul Vineyards throughout Portugal, Dao Sul has become one of the most dynamic wine producers in the region. While Dao Sul originated in the Dao area, (where most of the operations are still based) they now produce wines from Alentejo, Bairrada, Estremadura and Douro according to our Dao Sul wine reviews. With a focus on indigenous Portuguese grape varieties, Dao Sul encompasses small boutique wineries as well as large scale production of high quality commercial wines. Their latest endeavor is a state of the art Dao Sul Winery including a fine dining restaurant in the heart of the Bairrada. While their entry level value wines are distributed and recognized around the globe, it is their top tier Dao and Douro red blends that tend to be held in the highest regard according to our Dao Sul wine ratings. For a wine at this price, this is an impressive performance. It is rich, finely structured, the juicy blackberry flavors filling the mouth. It may lack complexity, but the spice, tobacco and berry flavors are enjoyably drinkable.  — R.V.  (4/1/2009)
