De Loach

De Loach Vineyards, a pioneer of Russian River Valley Pinot Noir, began in 1973 when a San Francisco firefighter, Cecil De Loach, planted his first Pinot Noir vines. In 2003, the winery was purchased by the Boisset Family when Jean-Charles Boisset, the current president of Boisset Family Estates, was impressed by the similarities between Sonoma County and Burgundy. Since 2004, De Loach has joined the eco-friendly movement, using biodynamic and organic farming techniques. For more information about this Sonoma County producer, be sure to take a look at our De Loach Vineyard Reviews.

De Loach 2004 30th Anniversary Cuvee Pinot Noir (Russian River Valley)

  • Editors' Choice
  1. $45
This shows winemaker Greg LaFollette’s master touch in the way he’s balanced the wine and kept it harmonious. It’s a huge mouthful of cherry pie and cassis flavor, with the most delicate notes of raspberries, toasted meringue and vanilla, subtlely spiced and dry. A gorgeous Pinot Noir that superbly combines power with elegance.  — S.H.  (8/1/2006)

De Loach 2009 Pennacchio Vineyard Pinot Noir (Russian River Valley)

  • Editors' Choice
  1. $45
With the 2009 vintage, De Loach is at the top of its Pinot Noir game, and this one, from a chilly vineyard south of Sebastopol, is among its best ever. The crisp acidity, like a squirt of lime, that accompanies the raspberry, cherry and persimmon fruit is bracing. Meanwhile, a mushroomy earthiness gives complex layers that don’t stop. It should age through the next…  — S.H.  (6/1/2012)

De Loach 2007 O.F.S Zinfandel (Russian River Valley)

  • Editors' Choice
  1. $30
This is De Loach’s finest Zinfandel of their five new releases. In fact, it’s their best Zinfandel ever, and one that defines Sonoma County cool-climate Zinfandel. It’s brilliant in balance and structure, with beautifully sculpted tannins and fine acidity, and just the right touch of oak. Within that package are savory flavors of wild blackberries, picked at their…  — S.H.  (7/1/2010)

De Loach 2010 Maboroshi Vineyard Pinot Noir (Russian River Valley)

  1. $50
Dazzling with silky richness, this wine is so delicious, you can’t help but to fall in love with it. Tantalizing with waves of raspberry and cherry pie, ripe persimmon, mocha, red licorice and smoky oak flavors that finish long and satisfying. The balance of acids and tannins is just about perfect. Calling all steaks for the perfect pairing.  — S.H.  (5/1/2013)

De Loach 2007 Riebli Valley Vineyard Zinfandel (Sonoma County)

  1. $48
A tremendous Zinfandel. Combines sheer volume of power fruit with finesse to essentially define the variety. With rich acidity and some firm, chewy tannins, it’s brilliantly dry, displaying blackberry tart, black currant, cola, mocha, bacon and pepper flavors, dusted with savory Indian spices. A very great Zinfandel whose high alcohol is simply part of the wine’s…  — S.H.  (7/1/2010)

De Loach 2009 Durrell Vineyard Pinot Noir (Sonoma Coast)

  1. $44
Pinot Noir just doesn’t get richer than this. It floods the mouth with ripe flavors of raspberries and cherries, with fascinatingly earthy things, like truffles and pine cones. Vibrant acidity and a hint of furry tannins give it a fine structure. This upscale Pinot Noir is drinkable now and should evolve over the next six years.  — S.H.  (6/1/2012)

De Loach 2009 Nova Vineyard Zinfandel (Lake County)

  • Editors' Choice
  1. $30
De Loach reaches into Lake County, not usually thought of as Zinfandel country, with tremendous results. This is a great wine by any standard. It shows some heat from high alcohol and some shriveled raisin tastes, but that’s part of a ripe Zin’s charm. Mostly, you’ll be impressed by waves of sweetly ripe berries, chocolate and bacon, smooth tannins and a long…  — S.H.  (6/1/2012)
