Leather and earth aromas also bring olive, black pepper, licorice and moss. The palate shows medium depth, while the flavors of plum and berry are herbal and regular. Short but good on the finish, with a grapey, chunky aftertaste.

This opens with mildly leafy, murky aromas of iodine and latex, with hints of black fruit. The palate feels a bit choppy and hollow, with an herbal mix of tomato and red plum flavors. It’s solid, but herbal and scratchy feeling as a whole.

Dark gold color and buttery nose say that it was heavily oaked during its fermentation and afterward. The palate is flat and resiny. On the finish, buttered toast and some bitter, oaky leftovers hold it back.

Creamy in the nose, with a hint of vanilla and Bartlett pear. The palate isn’t boring; there’s cantaloupe and nutmeg nuances along with some papaya and banana. The weakness: The wine turns soft almost immediately upon pouring.

Talk about wood spice! This has it in spades, and it covers up any fruit that might want to escape from the bouquet. But in the mouth some sweet cherry flavor emerges, followed by more cherry and ample woodiness on the finish.

Soft and melony, with candied fruit and mild citrus that turns a little mealy on the end. Has some kick and flavor, but it doesn’t settle on any common ground.

This hard, snappy Cab is granular and tough on the nose, an indicator of what’s to come. The palate is edgy and tight as nails, with herbal plum flavors that land on a spicy, lightly green finish. 2011 was a very cool vintage in Chile and this reflects that.

This smells dry and leafy, with a bacon note. It feels lively and edgy, with berry, currant and oak spice in its flavor profile. It finishes fairly tannic and warm, with a rubbery strength.
