Diamond Terrace 2007 Cabernet Sauvignon (Diamond Mountain)
Cellar Selection
Price
$55
Made in a tight, austere but nonetheless flashy style, this Cabernet has herb and mineral notes alongside fruitier ones of blackberries and black cherries. It’s gritty in tannins and already throwing some sediment. Needs time, badly, and should warrant a good ten years in the bottle. Very fine.

Diamond Terrace 2007 Cabernet Sauvignon (Howell Mountain)
Cellar Selection
Price
$75
This young, brash Cabernet is filled with adolescent power and angst. It’s all sinew and potency now, in the grip of strong, masculine tannins that overshadow the blackberry fruit. It’s clearly a cellar candidate, and should emerge, in eight years or so, with authority.

Diamond Terrace 2001 Cabernet Sauvignon (Diamond Mountain)
Cellar Selection
Price
$50
An intense and concentrated Cabernet that’s dominated now by its sheer tannic power. Tight and young, it has a rich, sweet core of black currant fruit modulated by dried herbs and sweet oak. Best after 2008 and beyond.

Diamond Terrace 2002 Cabernet Sauvignon (Diamond Mountain)
Price
$55
So sweet, it’s almost like a dessert wine, suggesting a cup of sugared cappuccino and cocoa mixed with creme de cassis, sprinkled with nutmeg and vanilla. Almost like something you’d get at Starbucks, instead of a dry table wine.
— S.H.
