Dieu Donne 1999 Merlot (Franschhoek)

  1. $17
Blackberry jam, portobello mushroom, forest floor and dry leather aromas; the palate adds peppery spice. Smooth but powerful tannins balance the sweet, ripe fruit in a decidedly New World style. —K.F.  — K.F.  (4/1/2003)

Dieu Donne 1999 Pinotage (Franschhoek)

  1. $17
Smoke and beef stock meet red apple, molasses and toast on the nose. The apple and molasses appear again on the palate, joined with grilled meat and distinct cherry accents. Well-developed fruit, refreshing acidity and fine tannins make this a very good wine. —K.F.  — K.F.  (4/1/2003)

Dieu Donne 2001 Sauvignon Blanc (Franschhoek)

  1. $15
The initial aromatics are of grapefruit, a grassy field, a nip of lilac and some pine. The flavors that follow are mostly in the pear, apple and lemon categories, while a little vanilla manages to work itself onto the short, clean finish. The mouthfeel is perfectly adequate, while overall it provides good character.  — W.E.  (8/1/2002)

Dieu Donne 2000 Merlot (Franschhoek)

  1. $18
Foresty earth notes wrap spiced plum, vanilla and toast flavors. The light weight and refreshing acids lead to the clean, toasty finish. More depth would contribute to a higher score.  — K.F.  (8/1/2003)
