DiStefano 2007 R Syrah (Columbia Valley (WA))

  1. $25
Solidly packed with ripe black cherry fruit, this well-crafted Syrah ramps up its complexity with a dusty coating of coffee grounds and clean earth. Fine tannins smooth it through a full-bodied finish.  — P.G.  (2/1/2012)

DiStefano 2008 Cabernet Sauvignon (Columbia Valley (WA))

  1. $25
A spicy wine with plenty of cinnamon and cocoa scents and accents. Wild berry fruit is still firm and hard, overtaken by the inviting barrel flavors. Give it more bottle age or decant it for near-term drinking.  — P.G.  (2/1/2012)

DiStefano 2006 domenica Red (Columbia Valley (WA))

  1. $20
This appealing Bordeaux blend opens with seductive mocha and milk chocolate aromas, threaded with cedar and toast. The fruit stands up to the wood, with pretty berry and rhubarb flavors. Extra bottle age has smoothed it out.  — P.G.  (5/1/2011)

DiStefano 2006 Sogno Cabernet Franc (Columbia Valley (WA))

  • Online Exclusive
  1. $25
Softened by the extra bottle age, this Cabernet Franc is already reaching maturity. The fruit flavors have melded into pastry fillings; there is a leathery scent and some pencil shavings also. Overall it’s drinking optimally at the moment, but seems in danger of cracking up.  — P.G.  (5/1/2011)

DiStefano 2004 Meritage (Columbia Valley (WA))

  1. $25
This is solidly made, with rough, chewy tannins and hard fruit flavors that show concentrated plum and cassis. Everything is in good proportion, although the acids are a bit chalky and the high alcohol (just under 15%) takes it away from classic Bordeaux flavors. It would be nice to see the ripeness ramped down a notch, because the mix of grapes is right and…  — P.G.  (12/31/2007)

DiStefano 2004 R Syrah (Columbia Valley (WA))

  1. $29
This has a moderately strong streak of funk, barnyard, leather, whatever you want to call it, wrapped around sweet boysenberry fruit. It’s not an immaculate conception of a wine, but it packs plenty of flavor, and the fruit has the kind of snap and tang that makes Washington Syrah stand out from the New World pack.  — P.G.  (12/31/2007)

DiStefano 2008 Meritage Red (Columbia Valley (WA))

  • Online Exclusive
  1. $20
Half of this Bordeaux-style blend is Cabernet Sauvignon, the other half a blend of Merlot, Cab Franc and Petit Verdot. Pretty cherry fruit and sweet oak flavors are the two main threads here, but they have yet to meld together into a seamless whole. The wine opens with plenty of black cherry flavor, then hits a wall of tannin and astringent dried wood.  — P.G.  (4/1/2012)

DiStefano 2007 domenica Red (Columbia Valley (WA))

  • Online Exclusive
  1. $20
A Bordeaux blend with a Right Bank inclination, this offers forward fruit aromas and flavors of bright, candied cherry. A puckery, peppery finish comes up quickly. Some 2007 Washington reds seem to be entering a dumb phase; this may need some extra bottle age to open up again.  — P.G.  (2/1/2012)
