Dolce 2006 Semillon-Sauvignon Blanc (Napa Valley)

  1. $85
Enthusiast 100 2011
With this wine, Dolce cements its status as California’s most consistently great dessert wine. This year’s blend is 80% Sémillon and 20% Sauvignon Blanc, and the grapes were infected with the botrytis, resulting in the fantastic sweetness. Devastating in apricot, orange, pear, honey, vanilla and créme brûlée flavors, in an unctuous, viscous texture, with…  — S.H.  (6/1/2011)

Dolce 1999 Late Harvest Table Wine White (Napa Valley)

  • Editors' Choice
  1. $75
Oh, how good this sweetie is. If you have just one white dessert wine this year, make it this rich, thick, unctuous wine, with its fabulous flavors of apricot marmalade, orange honey, pineapple, chutney, smoke, vanilla, toast, toasted hazelnut, the list goes on and on. Fills the mouth with velvety opulence, and finishes very long. A special wine of great distinction.  — S.H.  (12/1/2003)

Dolce 2002 Late Harvest Wine Semillon-Sauvignon Blanc (Napa Valley)

  • Editors' Choice
  1. $80
Over many years Dolce has established itself as one of the top dessert wines in California, and the ’02 doesn’t disappoint. Enormously rich in apricot, tangerine and roasted coconut flavors, with plenty of botrytis notes, the wine was aged in 100% new French oak, and oozes in sweet vanilla char and crème brûlée.  — S.H.  (12/15/2006)

Dolce 2000 Late Harvest Wine White (Napa Valley)

  • Editors' Choice
  1. $75
This flamboyant wine is drenched in new oak the way Hollywood stars used to wrap themselves in mink. It’s fabulous, gooey-sweet in apricots, honey, vanilla, peaches and cream and ripe, sweet bananas sautéed in butter. It’s all folded into the most unctuous, butter cream texture. Thank goodness for the acids. Deliriously addictive. Mostly Semillon, with Sauvignon Blanc.  — S.H.  (2/1/2005)

Dolce 2005 Late Harvest Semillon-Sauvignon Blanc (Napa Valley)

  • Online Exclusive
  1. $85
Year in and year out, Dolce is one of California’s greatest sweet dessert wines, and in 2005, it may stand supreme. It’s an impossibly rich wine, mainly because the botrytis mold developed perfectly in this fine vintage. Shows fabulous flavors of apricot purée, vanilla-infused crême brulée, pineapple sorbet and candied ginger, balanced with brilliant acidity. The…  — S.H.  (12/21/2011)

Dolce 1998 White (Napa Valley)

  1. $75
Ripe hay, vanilla, and apricot mark the nose; deep orange flavors with cinnamon spice notes and a very smooth mouthfeel are the already promising attributes of this infant. All the right elements are there, and in good balance. Best cellared for three to five years.  — W.E.  (2/1/2001)

Dolce 2001 Late Harvest White (Oakville)

  1. $75
This Semillon and Sauvignon Blanc blend continues the Dolce tradition of being among the finest dessert wines in California. The wine as usual is rich and unctuous, a glyceriney sweetie packed with apricot, peach, honey, vanilla and crème brûlée flavors offset by crisp acidity. It’s sweet, but not too sweet.  — S.H.  (10/1/2005)

Dolce 2004 Late Harvest Wine White (Napa Valley)

  • Online Exclusive
  1. $85
This year, the Sauvignon Blanc is only 1% compared to the usual 10%, to the detriment of the wine. It’s broad in sweet honey, botrytised apricots, pineapple custard and vanilla smoke, and no one will complain when you bring it out. But it lacks the power of 2001 or 2002.  — S.H.  (6/1/2008)
