Domaine A. Mazurd & Fils 1995 L'Or du Rhône Cuvée Exceptionnelle Grenache (Côtes du Rhône)

  1. $23
Like the other Mazurd wines, this is mature—maybe even a little past mature—but still very enjoyable. This cuvée is slightly floral, with delicate leather, dried fig and spice aromas, and a silky-smooth mouthfeel. Folds in a touch of peppery spice on the finish. Drink now.  — J.C.  (11/15/2006)

Domaine A. Mazurd & Fils 1995 Cuvée Mazurka Red (Côtes du Rhône)

  1. $20
A luxury cuvée aged in oak, this is a rather mature wine, browning at the edges, yet still offering plenty of interest. Dates, tobacco and slightly horsey elements give it a fair degree of complexity, while time has softened any rough edges, leaving it smooth and velvety on the finish.  — J.C.  (11/15/2006)

Domaine A. Mazurd & Fils 2000 Red (Côtes du Rhône)

  • Online Exclusive
  1. $14
Hard to believe a 2000 is the current release, but this domaine appears to make a policy of holding their wines. Its maturity has given it a supple and smooth mouthfeel—as well as touches of browning to the color. It’s a meaty, savory wine with hints of mushroom and spice to go along with dried cherries and a touch of pepper on the finish. Mature; drink up.  — J.C.  (11/15/2006)

Domaine A. Mazurd & Fils 2005 Cuvée Les Mattes Nègres White (Côtes du Rhône)

  • Online Exclusive
  1. $11
Somewhat earthy and musky on the nose, this broad, full-bodied, low-acid white sort of crawls onto the palate and lays there. It’s O.K., just not exciting in any way.  — J.C.  (11/15/2006)
