Only eight barrels of this totally wonderful stuff were produced. This young, immature Syrah is massive and splendid. Huge in fruit, pepper, smoke, and earthy flavors, swaddled in rich tannins and smart oak. Great now, but will improve over the next 4 years.

A super-structured, incredibly textured Syrah from the Sierra Foothills, this is Bill Easton’s best of the best lots, aptly named Ascent, that he puts out every year to showcase his deft handling of age-worthy Syrah. This one will continue to develop its earthy, dusty, bacon fat and cigar box qualities over time. A truly beautiful bottle of wine.

Right up there in ripe power with the Domaine's other fabulous '02 Syrahs, but even more intense in concentrated black cherry and cocoa fruit, with a strong note of smoked meat or leather.Totally dry, this is a big, impressive young wine with compelling flavors.

This is a dramatic Syrah, concentrated in blackberries, cassis, black cherries, woodsap, spices and vanilla flavors that flood the palate, sinking in deep and lasting through the finish. The wine is totally dry and balanced. It’s young and flashy now, and should be best over the next two or three years.

Rich and unctuous, this wine is made from the oldest Syrah vineyard in the Sierra Foothills, and you can taste the concentration in the intense blackberry, cherry, blueberry and chocolate flavors. Fortunately the wine is not only fruity, but balanced in crisp acidity and firm tannins, while new French oak adds an overlay of vanilla and toast. Delicious now, it will…

Made from the oldest vines in the winery’s vineyard, Terre Rouge’s Sentinal Oaks Pyramid Block is usually their best Syrah, and so it is in the 2005 vintage. It’s a beautiful wine, soft, rich and opulent. The flavors of blackberries, ground black pepper, cherries, raspberries, chocolate, coffee, cola and Asian spices flood the mouth, leading to a dry, anise-tinged…

Dynamic, intense, and complex, a massive wine that explodes with blackberry, plum, dark chocolate and herb aromas and flavors. Terrific texture, thick and smooth, and totally drinkable tonight.

By far the most tannic and closed of the winery's Syrahs, this wine takes the Northern Rhone for its model. Peppery and leathery, with a core of blackberry and chocolate flavors, it's very dry, rich and balanced. Good now with robust foods, but should soften and sweeten for 3 or 4 years.
