Domaine du Mas Blanc 1996 Cuvée La Coume Red (Banyuls)

I have long enjoyed Dr. Parcé's dry red wines made under the Collioure appellation label. Banyuls is the traditional dessert wine of the region. This is fabulous, with its open-knit, candied character, dried roses and a touch of mint. It finishes long and soft, with every nuance tightly defined. It's not cheap, but it's special. — W.E.
