Don Ramón 2008 Red (Campo de Borja)

Spiced berry aromas are dense and suggest raisin, but overall this is a clean, inexpensive blend of Garnacha and Tempranillo that is satisfying and highly competent. Flavors run smoky, rubbery and dark, but not baked or too heavy. Toasty and roasty on the finish, too.

Don Ramón 2006 Tinto Barrica Red (Campo de Borja)

Light cherry and mild sulfuric aromas are standard fare for this class of wine, while the palate is snappy and fresh, with sweet-and-sour cherry and strawberry flavors. Finishes a little gritty and candied, but pleasant enough overall.

Don Ramón 2003 Tinto Barrica Red (Campo de Borja)
Price
$7
Mildly green and brambly, with touches of tomato and raspberry on the full, sun-baked bouquet. Yet in the mouth it’s tart, pushing red cherry flavors onto a palate that’s lactic and creamy. Settles late to show some fruit and subtleties.

Don Ramón 2002 Tinto Red (Campo de Borja)

From Bodegas Aragonesas, this bulky, ultra sweet red sports virtually no acids and as a result tastes like candy in liquid form. Tons of raspberries and sugar before a medicinal finish. Too clumsy and strange for our taste.

Don Ramón 2002 Tempranillo (Rioja)
Online Exclusive
Price
$15
This co-op wine is almost a good deal, but ultimately it does not show enough depth or elegance to reach the next level. The nose is a touch stewy and lifeless, while the palate offers chewy raisin, plum and berry. Flat on the finish, with a syrupy feel.
