Don Rodolfo 2003 High Altitude Vineyards Shiraz (Cafayate)

Begins with leather, earth and stewed plum aromas. The body is big and manly, with smooth tannins and a chunky mouthfeel. Flavors of plum, berry and rhubarb are lively, accented by a touch of milk chocolate.  — M.S.  (11/15/2004)

Don Rodolfo 2010 High Altitude Vineyards Torrontés (Cafayate)

  • Best Buy
  1. $10
Nice white fruit aromas form a good greeting, which is backed by a fresh, melony palate with solid honeydew and lychee flavors. This one keeps things simple and clean, and for the most part that’s what you want from the variety.  — M.S.  (10/1/2011)

Don Rodolfo 2004 High Altitude Vineyards Tannat (Cafayate)

  • Best Buy
  1. $10
Tannat by nature is a hard, brooding grape, and this version from northern Argentina’s Salta region is funky, with olive, horse hide and plenty of dark-fruit aromas and flavors. The palate is leathery but proportioned, with spice and length. Could use a touch more cushion, but hey, that’s Tannat.  — M.S.  (12/1/2006)

Don Rodolfo 2010 High Altitude Vineyards Pinot Noir (Cafayate)

A touch stemmy and cooked smelling, with Cafayate’s patented herbal notes. The palate has a regular feel and briary, herbal flavors of pepper, tobacco and red berry fruit. Spicy and warm on the finish, but good in a competent way.  — M.S.  (11/1/2011)

Don Rodolfo 2003 High Altitude Vineyards Torrontés (Cafayate)

Floral as it should be, with lemon and litchi aromas. Citrus controls the palate, aided by notes of green herbs. Long and zesty on the finish. A good Torrontès that’s meant to be served well chilled.  — M.S.  (11/15/2004)

Don Rodolfo 2004 High Altitude Vineyards Malbec (Cafayate)

  • Online Exclusive
  1. $10
Fairly earthy and stewy, but not too baked to suffer. The palate is expectedly chunky and meaty, with full-weight dark fruits and some rooty depth. Fairly easygoing and likable, but a tad muddled.  — M.S.  (12/1/2006)

Don Rodolfo 2005 High Altitude Vineyards Torrontés (Cafayate)

Yellowish rather than pale in color, which indicates some overripeness that’s confirmed on the chunky, apple-driven nose. Big on the palate as well, with tropical fruit preceding a lazy finish. Big in flavor but lacks touch. Imported by Cabernet Corporation.  — M.S.  (11/1/2006)

Don Rodolfo 2003 High Altitude Vineyards Malbec (Cafayate)

Pickle and sauerkraut notes mix with raisins and leather on the nose. It maintains that funky, pickled flavor throughout. Along the way there’s red-berry fruit and some heat-bearing spice. Unconventional and strange, but acceptable.  — M.S.  (11/15/2004)
