If there is any criticism to be made of this wine, it might be that it is just too fruity. Waves of honey and tropical fruit coat the mouth, wonderfully balanced by zesty acidity, and while it is sweet and lush it never seems cloying or heavy. Delicious now–2015, at least.

A great value in dry Riesling, the 2010 from Dr. Heidemanns-Bergweiler displays fascinating aromas of peach, lime, fern fronds and brine, along with medium body, a velvety texture and a long, potent finish. Drink it over the next few years.

So lush and rich, almost to the point of being over the top, this is a hugely tropical Riesling, with waves of cascading fruit. Yet there’s also a suggestion of slaty minerality and even a tinge of citrus pith reining things in on the finish. Drink it now as a dessert unto itself, or age it for a decade or more before trying it with more savory dishes.
