Dr. Wehrheim 2008 Muschelkalk Trocken Weissburgunder (Pfalz)

  • Online Exclusive
  1. $37
A wine with an inviting nose of ripe fruit, layered with notes of honey and lovely, savory-earthy minerality. This is broad across the palate, with a smooth rich texture. Dry and fresh, featuring ample flavors of ripe orchard and stone fruit, with spice and balsamic notes adding complexity. Long length and a persistent savory finish.  — W.E.  (3/1/2011)

Dr. Wehrheim 2007 Birkweiler Kastanienbusch Spontaneous Spätlese Riesling (Pfalz)

  1. $39
At the outset, this wine doesn’t seem very minerally. Instead, it delivers scents of melon and pear and similar flavors of soft ripe fruit. But it’s moderately rich in texture, and gets progressively more mineral over time, ending with a long, peach-and-mineral finish. Once you warm up to it, it really sings.  — J.C.  (6/1/2009)

Dr. Wehrheim 2008 Buntsandstein Weisser Burgunder Trocken Pinot Blanc (Pfalz)

  • Online Exclusive
Earthy on the nose, with savory aromas, fern fronds and ultraripe yellow fruit. This is dry and racy—almost a little tart—showing moderately intense flavors of ripe melons, Golden Delicious apples and Bosc pears. A little skeletal for the crispness but juicy and refreshing, with a long and savory earthy finish.  — W.E.  (3/1/2011)

Dr. Wehrheim 2007 Muschelkalk Weisser Burgunder Spätlese Trocken Pinot Blanc (Pfalz)

  1. $35
Leaner in style than the Weissburgunder from sandstone soils, this one boasts chalky, flinty aromas and sharp lime flavors. Doesn’t show much aromatic range, but remains focused, crisp and lively throughout.  — J.C.  (6/1/2009)

Dr. Wehrheim 2007 Buntsandstein Weisser Burgunder Spätlese Trocken Pinot Blanc (Pfalz)

  1. $33
This is different in style from the kabinett bottling, being less fragrant and charming yet broader and more powerful. It’s minerally right up front, like smoky quartz, then plump and slightly creamy on the midpalate before ending in a dusting of crushed stones.  — J.C.  (6/1/2009)

Dr. Wehrheim 2007 Buntsandstein Weisser Burgunder Kabinett Trocken Pinot Blanc (Pfalz)

  • Online Exclusive
  1. $20
This medium-bodied dry white is prettily aromatic, showing hints of orange blossom, pineapple and pear upfront, then building on the base of fruit with hints of wet stones and a dry, almost chalky finish.  — J.C.  (6/1/2009)

Dr. Wehrheim 2005 Grauer Burgunder Kabinett Trocken Pinot Gris (Pfalz)

  • Online Exclusive
  1. $19
Much lighter in weight than many Pinot Gris on the market, this is a pretty, fruit-driven rendering of the variety, blending tropical fruit with ripe apples and hints of pink grapefruit. It’s crisp and clean on the finish.  — J.C.  (4/1/2008)

Dr. Wehrheim 2006 Buntsandstein Weisser Burgunder Kabinett Trocken Pinot Blanc (Pfalz)

  • Online Exclusive
  1. $18
A complete contrast to the 2007, probably reflecting some of the difficulties of the vintage. This is tart and hard, with dull earthy aromas and just hints of citrus and melon.  — J.C.  (6/1/2009)
