Duval-Leroy 1996 Cuvée Femme Brut Sparkling (Champagne)
-
$110
Femme is Duval-Leroy’s top cuvée. This, from the great 1996 vintage, is as much wine as sparkling experience. It has great depth of flavor and a powerful steely background, with tight acidity. The grapefruit flavor is only superficial, because behind this crispness, the wine shows considerable richness.

Duval-Leroy 1996 Brut Sparkling (Champagne)

As they begin to mature, it’s good to be reminded of the 1996 vintage. The initial austerity is now blossoming into finely balanced wines, even though the acidity is always going to be a dominant factor. This wine is still young, in fact, still with its fresh fruits, only just showing some mineral and toast character. Age for 10 years or more.

Duval-Leroy NV Paris Brut Sparkling (Champagne)
-
$28
New in America, Duval-Leroy is set to make a splash with its bold, artistic “Paris” bottle, silk-screened by artist Leroy Neiman. A 40/60 Chardonnay/Pinot blend, it carries scents of honeysuckle, hazelnut and vanilla into a fresh, flavorful and persistent middle. Hints of mint and even mint julep roll around the tongue, keeping the flavors lively and interesting.

Duval-Leroy NV Rosé de Saignée Brut Sparkling (Champagne)

$40
A very pretty copper color, just faintly tinged with pink. It’s a sensuous, spicy wine with forward, pretty aromas of strawberry, raspberry and sweet cherry. It doesn’t fade in the mouth; there is real concentration here all the way through. It actually seems to build intensity as it sails into the long, graceful finish.
