El Vinculo 2004 Crianza Red (La Mancha)
Online Exclusive
Price
$34
Big and burly, with highly respectable aromas of ripe blackberry, toast and mint. Attractive plum and blackberry flavors follow, and as it passes from palate to finish the wine shows its depth and structure. A little stiff in terms of oak and tannin and kind of simple overall. Still, it’s a wine that indicates that La Mancha could finally be ready for the world stage.

El Vinculo 2001 Reserva Tempranillo (La Mancha)
Price
$40
Solid and spicy, with full cherry and berry aromas that get woodier with time. Snappy red fruit carries the medium-weight palate, while it finishes tight, structured and with noticeable vanilla and chocolate. A free-flowing wine that is at its best right now. Imported by Classical Wines.

El Vinculo 1999 Reserva Tempranillo (La Mancha)
Price
$19
This is a new wine made by Alejandro Fernandez of Pesquera in Ribera del Duero. It’s clear, defined and ripe, with earthy, spicy undercurrents supporting potent blackberry fruit. The chewy, deep palate is solid and saturated, leading into a coffee-tinged finish that carries echoes of chocolate. The tannins get larger with each passing minute; drink this with food.

El Vinculo 2000 Crianza Tempranillo (La Mancha)
Price
$27
Aromas of charred beef, pepper and raspberry start it off before giving way to a questionable grassiness. Flavors of blackberry, plum and cassis carry the forward palate, which is nothing if not power-packed and forward. Ripe tannins are highly evident but they don’t pound away.

El Vinculo 2002 Tempranillo (La Mancha)
Price
$25
Fairly deep and saturated, at least to the eye. It’s a dark, soft wine with leather, earth and blueberry aromas. The palate is alive and balanced, with black cherry and plum flavors. Not overpowering at any point, with coffee and chocolate on the finish. Imported by Classical Wines.

El Vinculo 1999 Red (La Mancha)
Price
$21
The nose is unusual, offering soil, eucalyptus and barbecue marinade aromas. Ripe red fruit is front-loaded on the palate, with the midpalate and finish showing more oak accents than fruit. Chalky tannins add texture to the otherwise lightweight mouthfeel. —D.M.
