Emiliana 2006 Gê Red (Colchagua Valley)

  • Editors' Choice
  1. $92
Dark, dense, spicy and full of everything nice, including cola, berry, earth and richness. The palate has ideal ripeness and power, and the flavors are a clever mix of light herbs, spice, chocolate and blasting berry. Long and sultry on the finish, with tobacco and immense complexity. One of Chile’s very best wines; a blend of Syrah, Carmenère, Cabernet and Merlot.  — M.S.  (9/1/2010)

Emiliana 2005 Gê Red (Colchagua Valley)

  • Editors' Choice
  1. $90
All signs point in one direction: the top of the heap. This is one great Chilean red blend! With Syrah, Carmenère, Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot in the mix, Gê sets a new benchmark for multigrape blends from Chile. This wine is loaded with berry, cassis and black plum flavors, but it’s textured, balanced and alluring. There’s a bit of creaminess on the finish to…  — M.S.  (5/1/2009)

Score Chasers: South America 2011
One of Chile’s best wines is excellent in 2007. The bouquet is concentrated, jammy and powerful, with Graham cracker sweetness offset by earth notes and leather. Lush and deep across the palate, with classy cassis, blackberry and fudge flavors. Layered and silky on the finish. Drink now through 2014.  — M.S.  (12/31/2011)

Emiliana 2007 Coyam Red (Colchagua Valley)

  1. $30
Gets better the longer it’s open, but starts with perfumed aromas of bright berry fruit and mineral. The palate is true and balanced, with spicy red-berry flavors and a hint of fine herbal essence. Dry and composed, but always an easygoing, fruity, sturdy wine that should age well through 2012–2014.  — M.S.  (5/1/2010)

Emiliana 2008 Coyam Red (Colchagua Valley)

  1. $34
As blends go, this is a winner. The nose is spicy and wild, with blackberry, cola, fine leather and earthy qualities. Lush and concentrated in the mouth, with meaty, herbal flavors of cola and blackberry. Toast and pepper notes lend darkness to the finish, and overall this is a grand, ripe thoroughbred made from six grapes including Syrah, Cabernet and Carmenère…  — M.S.  (4/1/2011)

Emiliana 2005 Coyam Red (Colchagua Valley)

  1. $30
Emiliana began as Vinedos Organicos Emiliana, but now goes only by Emiliana because getting certified as an organic winery proved too difficult. Still, Emiliana’s vineyards are organically farmed, and this five-grape blend made by Alvaro Espinoza is intense and extracted yet still finely knit. It’s a serious wine with slight herbal/pine aromas, robust red-fruit…  — M.S.  (5/1/2008)

Emiliana 2011 Novas Gran Reserva Sauvignon Blanc (Casablanca Valley)

Sweet on the nose yet firm as a bristle brush, with lime and pineapple as the key aromas. Feels juicy, tight and light on the tongue, with fine acidity propelling nectarine, lime and melon flavors. Zesty, crisp and pure throughout. A serious value among white wines.  — M.S.  (4/1/2012)
