Beautifully composed, with power and just as much precision and pizzazz. The nose offers lightly baked berry fruit notes, leather and spice, while the palate is loaded with tobacco, exotic spices and the finest natural berry flavors Spain has to offer. Smooth, elegant, finessed and potent, with integrated tannins and bold acidity that will keep it going for at…  — M.S.  (6/1/2010)

Talk about magnetic aromas of bacon, tobacco and bold black fruit, and then comes an oak-rich palate full of coconut, butter, chocolate and exotic berry flavor. Chocolate truffle and pastry work the finish, and overall this is a mile-deep beauty to drink from 2011 through 2017.  — M.S.  (6/1/2010)

Emilio Moro 2007 Malleolus de Sanchomartin Tinto Fino (Ribera del Duero)

Another winner from Emilio Moro. The nose is a touch minty and very spicy, but the black fruit element is there and overall the bouquet sings of integration. Pure, enthralling and big, with monster black fruit flavors, complexity, rich oak and a long, smooth finish. Stylish yet powerful; drink from 2013 through 2020.  — M.S.  (8/1/2010)

Opens with touches of coconut, mineral, violet petals and sweet black fruits. The mouthfeel is textured and smooth, while the flavors of raspberry, blackberry and plum are deep, delectable and of very high quality. This is Ribera del Duero wine at the optimal intersection of power, flavor and human care and concern. Drink now and over the next four years. Imported…  — M.S.  (10/1/2009)

Emilio Moro 2007 Malleolus de Valderramiro Tinto Fino (Ribera del Duero)

  • Cellar Selection
  1. $176
Big and sultry as always, with bacon, smoke, black fruit and a full rack of spices making for a wonderful bouquet. Concentrated and ripped for a 2007, with blackberry, clove, pepper, cinnamon and vanilla flavors. And then comes tobacco and more spice on the finish, which is grabby but understandable because it’s so young. Best from 2012 through 2019.  — M.S.  (8/1/2010)

Emilio Moro 2008 Malleolus de Sanchomartin Tinto Fino (Ribera del Duero)

  • Cellar Selection
  1. $183
Richer and more grapey than the Valdorramiro 2008, but also friendlier, deeper and more complete. Aromas of blackberry, vanilla and sweet spices lead to a structured, weighty palate full of spicy, oak-driven berry and plum flavors. Clove notes and length define the finish. Drink from 2014–2019  — M.S.  (5/1/2012)

Emilio Moro 2002 Malleolus de Valderramiro Tinto del Pais (Ribera del Duero)

  1. $166
Undoubtedly powerful, but lovable. The nose is wholesome and complete, a blend of earth, coffee and heavy black cherry and plum aromas. Broad on the palate, with deep levels of dark fruit mixed with copious French oak. A big-time success in ’02, and proof that good wines can come from marginal vintages.  — M.S.  (6/1/2005)

Emilio Moro 2006 Malleolus Tinto del Pais (Ribera del Duero)

  1. $50
Warm and rich wine, with big black cherry, raspberry, vanilla and cedary aromas. Well-oaked if nothing else, with mixed red fruits, black plum and a ton of vanilla on the palate. Lovely texture and stoutly structured, and the finish is full but soft, with dry spice and even more vanilla. Drink now through 2014.  — M.S.  (4/1/2010)
