This is just liquid honey, with a touch of lemon. It is so smooth and with nuts and lemon peel. Sweet, rich and balanced. Delicious, with a crisp aftertaste.

One of Austria’s iconic reds, Mariental comes from a single vineyard in the hills above Rust on the Neusiedlersee. It is finely perfumed, the perfumes following through to the rich but firm palate, which is elegant and dense in texture, with ripe blueberry and strawberry fruits founded on solid tannins. Age for several years.

Famed as a cult wine in Austria, this lives up to its billing. It is powerful but elegant, with juicy, herbal flavors, blackberries, damsons and a smooth, cocoa coating. But there is certainly structure here from the tannins. Like so many Triebaumer wines, this will age magnificently.

A blend of Chardonnay, Weissburgunder and Welschriesling, this is one of the top vintages from Ernst Triebaumer. A huge weight botrytis, though fresh with Asian spice and lychee flavors. Orange peel adds to the rich complexity of this wine.

A huge, powered wine from the famed Mariental vineyard, smoothed by wood, but also packed with dark tannins, flavors of dark plums, bitter chocolate and blackberry fruits. The tannins—dry and firm—promise great aging potential. Keep this wine for 5 years and more. Glass stopper.

This blend of Welschriesling and Chardonnay, hugely sweet, but with balanced, intense acidity, was produced in tiny quantities. Flavors of intense crystallized orange peel dominate, balanced with full, rich opulent fruit make this a wine to savor.

As smooth as a red wine can be. Eighteen months in barrels, of which 40% were new, have smoothed out any sharp edges. This is velvety inits texture, with its ripe fruit, sweet tannins and red berry fruit flavors.

In their youth—and this is still young—the wines of Ernst Triebaumer show great freshness and almond flavors as much as the hugely rich sweetness and botrytis. There is some delicacy here, leaving a fresh, light taste in the mouth. But just watch this wine develop—over 10 years or more.
