Errazuriz 2007 La Cumbre Syrah (Aconcagua Valley)

  • Editors' Choice
  1. $120
A smooth, modern and rich version of Chilean Syrah that’s bringing it. The nose is full of mineral, graphite, coconut and heavenly black fruit, while the palate is bright, pure and delicious as it leans toward black-currant liqueur, blackberry and boysenberry. Fruity to the max, with a meaty finish and plenty of body. Drink now through 2013.  — M.S.  (12/31/2010)

Supermodern in style, with mint, coconut, chocolate and huge black fruit aromas. Powerfully structured and thick-boned, with boysenberry, spice and chocolate in spades. Oaky, broad and layered on the finish, with tobacco, coffee and chocolate finishing notes.  — M.S.  (12/1/2011)

Errazuriz 2006 La Cumbre Shiraz (Aconcagua Valley)

  1. $80
The price on this high-end Chilean Shiraz keeps climbing, but on the plus side so does the quality. This is the best La Cumbre Errazuriz has made; it’s sweet on the nose, with marzipan, earth, sautéed mushroom and big black-fruit aromas. The palate is round and rewarding, with huge blackberry and raspberry flavors. Deep, leathery, meaty and impressive. Drink now…  — M.S.  (7/1/2009)

Errazuriz 2010 La Cumbre Syrah (Aconcagua Valley)

  1. $125
This is a rich, ripe Syrah with chunky aromas of baked black fruits, forest floor, chocolate and berry syrup. It’s soft, lush and syrupy feeling, with jammy, ultraripe flavors of baked blackberry, tobacco, coffee and herbs. This finishes chewy, dense and without much spine or kick. Drink now through 2015.  — M.S.  (7/1/2013)

Errazuriz 2005 La Cumbre Shiraz (Aconcagua Valley)

  1. $65
There’s no shortage of new oak here, but still the nose smells good: chocolate, leather, tobacco and vanilla all make an appearance. The palate is saturated and forward, with obvious tannins, extract and sweet, syrupy flavors of molasses and blackberry. Finishes creamy but not cloying, with hints of leather and oil. Very nice New World Shiraz from Chile.  — M.S.  (7/1/2009)

Errazuriz 2003 La Cumbre Shiraz (Aconcagua Valley)

  1. $39
Heavily toasted on the nose, with tobacco, leather and vanilla along with powerful dark fruit. Sweet and plump in the mouth, with a solid mouthfeel that doesn’t falter. Tasty and long on the tail, with the essence of coffee and an inkling of popcorn. Oaky and expensive, but still very good. Imported by Vintus.  — M.S.  (11/1/2005)

Errazuriz 2004 La Cumbre Shiraz (Aconcagua Valley)

  1. $50
Plenty of oak and coconut grace the modern-styled bouquet, while the palate is round as a balloon, with tons of black cherry and mint flavors. Doubtless it’s a chunky red, and the finish runs rich to the point of syrupy. For now the oak and tannins have things under wraps; best to revisit in a year’s time.  — M.S.  (12/31/2006)
