Espiritu de Argentina 2008 Bonarda (Mendoza)

  • Best Buy
  1. $9
A far better wine than the previous vintage. This is big, beefy and clean, with bacon on the nose. The palate is perky, zesty and high in acidity, and thus the flavors of cherry and plum are forward and alert. Finishes with snap and pop as it begs for pizza, grilled chicken or a hamburger off the grill.  — M.S.  (12/31/2010)

Espiritu de Argentina 2007 Reserva Malbec (Mendoza)

  1. $14
Heavy, inky and seemingly a bit overripe, with grassy, doughy, cake-like aromas. The palate is simple and soft, and it comes with deep berry, candy and herbal flavors. More herbal on the finish, with coconut entering the picture.  — M.S.  (7/1/2010)

Espiritu de Argentina 2010 Chardonnay (Mendoza)

  • Best Buy
  1. $10
After a slightly murky start the nose settles on basic apple and sweet oak. The palate is full, with citrusy acidity and chunky flavors of melon and orange. Maintains focus on the finish, with lychee and lime flavors pushing it towards tropical. Drink now.  — M.S.  (11/1/2011)

Espiritu de Argentina 2009 Torrontés (Mendoza)

  • Online Exclusive
  1. $9
Chunky and generic smelling, with a nutty, oily palate that isn’t purely focused or clean. The palate has some bitterness and excess weight along with fading lychee and melon flavors. Not a terrible wine for $9 but the low price doesn’t erase its flaws.  — M.S.  (8/1/2010)

Espiritu de Argentina 2008 Torrontés (Mendoza)

  1. $10
Primary honey and lychee aromas fall off and dull with air, while the palate is melony and soft, with bland nectarine and peach flavors. Dry, short on flavor and weakening with each passing day. Wait for the 2009.  — M.S.  (12/1/2009)

Espiritu de Argentina 2007 Malbec (Mendoza)

  • Online Exclusive
  1. $10
Stemmy and fiery on the nose, with light raspberry aromas. The palate is lightweight and acidic, while the generic palate shows cherry and plum fruit and heat. Plows on through but doesn’t register more than the basics.  — M.S.  (12/1/2009)

Espiritu de Argentina 2008 Malbec (Mendoza)

Snappy, prickly, red-currant aromas fail to improve with airing. The palate is high in acidity, creating a sheer feel to the cherry and raspberry fruit that drives the flavor profile. Drying and hollow on the finish. Very regular wine, with bramble and tartness.  — M.S.  (8/1/2010)

Espiritu de Argentina 2010 Malbec (Mendoza)

  • Online Exclusive
  1. $10
A dilute wine with slightly weedy, odd aromas of clove and muddled berry. Feels zesty and tangy, almost sheering, with oaky flavors on top of lean, generic red berry fruit. Woodspice is domiNAt on the finish.  — M.S.  (12/31/2011)
