Estola 1991 Gran Reserva Red (La Mancha)

  1. $16
Like any aged gran reserva worth its weight, this wine has tomato and vanilla aromas and some oxidization. But it remains largely fresh despite its maturity. Lean strawberry flavors grace the silky palate, which is trailed by a smooth and airy finish. The intensity has faded, but given the fact that it’s 10+ years old, that should be expected.  — M.S.  (11/1/2002)

Estola 1997 Reserva 1997 Tempranillo (La Mancha)

  1. $8
With lean, leathery aromas, this wine seems like it has been stretched to its maximum. The generic raspberry fruit is clean, but fails to offer any excitement. The finish is dull and dry, but ultimately it’s also clean and smooth. There is nothing really off in this wine, but by the same token there’s nothing to hang your hat on, either.  — M.S.  (11/1/2002)
