F X Pichler 2008 Dürnsteiner Kellerberg Smaragd Grüner Veltliner (Wachau)
Cellar Selection
An evocative spice and caramel aroma combine with ripe yellow peach. To taste, the peach comes through strongly, while the fabulous taut structure keeps the wine tightly wound with acidity and minerality. The final taste is just off dry.

F X Pichler 2008 M Smaragd Grüner Veltliner (Wachau)
M stands for Monumental as in powerful, impressive. This ripe, sweet Grüner is certainly that, a late-harvest wine of impeccable purity. Figs, mango and intense spice give an exotic feel to this opulent wine. It is beautifully layered, peeling back wonderful flavors.

F X Pichler 2006 Dürnsteiner Kellerberg Smaragd Riesling (Wachau)
Editors' Choice
Price
$88
Superbly opulent, almost indecently rich, a wine that is just held in check by its acidity and freshness. Tropical fruits, pineapple and sweet acidity are layered with some steeliness. The finish is ravishing.

F X Pichler 2008 Loibner Berg Smaragd Riesling (Wachau)
A rich, smooth wine, creamy-textured yet with points of fresh zest, green plums and spiced apricots. This is a beautifully balanced wine, just a touch of honey showing with a lively freshness. The finish just lasts forever.

F X Pichler 2006 Loibner Steinertal Smaragd Riesling (Wachau)
Cellar Selection
Price
$65
The extreme eastern vineyard of the Wachau is a stony valley, giving an extreme wine, all mineral and cool, poised fruit even in a warm year like 2006. Yes, there are pears and currant fruit flavors, but the wine goes more towards the lime and salt, to fit with its austere structure. Age for at least 10 years.

F X Pichler 2008 Loibner Berg Smaragd Grüner Veltliner (Wachau)
Pepper and minerality dominate this elegant wine. It is still extraordinarily young, its structure more important than the beautiful green and white fruit flavors, crispened by pineapple acidity. It will age for many years.

F X Pichler 2008 Loibner Steinertal Smaragd Riesling (Wachau)
Taut wine, walking on a knife edge of crisp acidity, bright fruit and a complex structure that comes from the stone of the vineyard and steely Riesling character. The wine is freshened by tangerine zest and hints of currants. Age for many years.

F X Pichler 2006 Unendlich Smaragd Riesling (Wachau)
Price
$145
With its label depicting the Queen of the Night in Mozart’s Magic Flute opera, this is a huge and dry wine, despite its 20% botrytis. A wine to admire for its concentration, it demands attention as well as aging.
