Fanti 2001 Sangiovese (Brunello di Montalcino)

  1. $90
Bold brushstrokes of cocoa fudge, lavish vanilla, espresso bean, plum, leather and Indian spice create an expressive and flavorful whole. Silky tannins are framed by ripe red fruit and smoky roasted notes. A very good showing from one of Brunello’s most recognized names. Imported by Winebow.  — W.E.  (4/1/2006)

Fanti 2007 Sangiovese Grosso (Brunello di Montalcino)

  1. $70
This fine and delicate Brunello shows soft elegance and sophistication in the form of cassis, wild berry, white pepper, root beer, toasted nut and cigar tobacco. The mouthfeel is firm and clean, with elements of tannic structure and fresh acidity that work well together. The oak element still needs time to integrate.  — M.L.  (5/1/2012)

Fanti 1999 Sangiovese (Brunello di Montalcino)

  1. $80
Rich, dark and lush, with liqueur-like aromas wafting upward from a sea of purple. An obvious entry into the “modern” category of Brunello. There’s jammy, mouthcoating fruit and only modest acidity. Detractors may find it heavy and bruising, but fans will adore its weight and creaminess.  — M.S.  (6/1/2004)

Fanti 2006 Sangiovese Grosso (Brunello di Montalcino)

  1. $70
Gorgeous on all fronts save for a tiny touch of rawness on the nose. Aromas include fresh cedar wood, incense and crème de cassis syrup. The wine is determined and powerful in terms of alcohol and delivers long, rich intensity to match.  — M.L.  (4/1/2011)

Fanti 1997 Sangiovese (Brunello di Montalcino)

  1. $58
Flavio Fanti’s tiny 12-acre vineyard is treated almost like his backyard, with a scrupulous attention to detail and now a dense planting that has definitely improved the quality of the wines. The 1997 shows modern, spicy wood, violet and rose aromas. The palate is rich, firm and dry, but with attractive bitter chocolate and licorice flavors. The new wood shows…  — R.V.  (8/1/2002)

Fanti 2005 Sangiovese Grosso (Brunello di Montalcino)

  1. $55
An important and historic player in Montalcino, Fanti comes forth this year with yet another beautiful Brunello. The wine is elegant and harmonious with bright layers of cherry fruit, spice and cola. The feeling it imparts in the mouth is one of richness and smoothness and there’s a playful touch of sour cherry on the close.  — M.L.  (10/1/2010)
