Feather 2008 Cabernet Sauvignon (Columbia Valley (WA))

  1. $55
Randy Dunn’s Feather has an intriguing floral component, and the aromas are complex and intense, though the wine is wound up tight. Let it breathe and it delivers elegant, focused flavors, precisely defined berry and cassis fruit, with a long and harmonious finish.  — P.G.  (2/1/2012)

Feather 2007 Cabernet Sauvignon (Columbia Valley (WA))

  1. $60
Pure Cabernet, aged in the same Vicard barrels as winemaker Randy Dunn’s Howell Mountain wines. About 90% is new oak, but it doesn’t strangle the fruit in any way. Tart and vibrant, with black cherry/black currant fruit, this balanced effort shows a velvety character and a fine touch in the vineyard. Nuances of coffee, earth, leaf and dried herb are threaded…  — P.G.  (12/31/2010)

Feather 2004 Cabernet Sauvignon (Columbia Valley (WA))

  1. $55
This is 100% Cabernet from a mix of vineyards scattered across the state. Lovely aromatics, impressive purity, a confident attack and fine-tuned flavors—blueberry and boysenberry and black cherry—are well-matched to oak and acid.  — P.G.  (8/1/2007)

Feather 2005 Cabernet Sauvignon (Columbia Valley (WA))

  1. $60
Surprisingly tight for such a ripe and generous vintage; decanted if you plan on drinking it soon. The fruit is concentrated and pure: raspberry, cherry and cassis with a chaser of lemony acid. The acids are not quite integrated yet, and the oak seems unusually restrained. Looks set to evolve in interesting ways; purchase it in quantity, then check on it regularly…  — P.G.  (3/1/2009)

Feather 2003 Cabernet Sauvignon (Columbia Valley (WA))

  1. $55
Napa’s Randy Dunn is making this 100% Cab with Long Shadows winemaker Gilles Nicault. Soft, ripe and plummy, it shows a good mix of red and blue fruits, amplified with lots of toast, chocolate, coffee and cinnamon highlights. Definitely a Napa-meets-Washington style.  — P.G.  (6/1/2006)

Feather 2006 Cabernet Sauvignon (Columbia Valley (WA))

  1. $60
Aggressive tannins and an unusually strong herbal component make this new vintage of Feather a bit difficult to assess at this moment. It’s peppery and stemmy in the nose, earthy and tannic in the mouth, with suggestions of asparagus. Quite a change from past vintages, but perhaps just a stage in its further evolution.  — P.G.  (3/1/2010)
