Fidelitas 2002 Syrah (Columbia Valley (WA))

  1. $40
A serious, smoky Syrah with herbal and floral nuances, beautifully melded to rich, almost fat varietal fruit. As it breathes there is spicy black pepper and the flavor of roasted meat, all framed by a palate-cleansing lick of tart acid, and a light touch with the oak. Seductive today but measured for medium-term aging.  — P.G.  (12/15/2004)

Fidelitas 2003 Cabernet Sauvignon (Columbia Valley (WA))

  1. $30
Great vineyard sources (Gamache, Klipsun) start things right, and this pureblooded, 100% Cab, though pushed to the point of showing some volatile high tones, compensates with saturated flavors of ripe berries, complemented with buttery oak. The silky finish can’t help but win your heart.  — P.G.  (12/15/2005)

Fidelitas 2003 Optu Red (Columbia Valley (WA))

  1. $40
The Optu blends grapes from Conner-Lee, Stillwater, Klipsun, Red Mountain vineyard and a bit of old vine Cabernet from Gamache—all excellent sites. It’s two thirds Cabernet, the rest mostly Merlot with 4% Cab Franc. Some nice sweet blackberry and black cherry fruit sails up from the glass; there is a touch of coffee/espresso in the nose also. It’s a very pretty…  — P.G.  (12/31/2006)

Fidelitas 2008 Sémillon (Columbia Valley (WA))

  1. $30
A fine example of pure, varietal, Columbia Valley Sémillon, this is like liquid honey, without the sweetness. It’s more like the essence of honey flavor, coating the mix of peach, pear and fig fruits. Smooth as silk, supple and soft, it’s a lovely effort.  — P.G.  (12/1/2010)

A white Bordeaux blend, handsome and richly accented with scents of toast and honey, the lemon drop fruit flavors are framed with lively acids. Quite delicious, beautifully balanced and despite its youth drinking quite well.  — P.G.  (5/1/2011)

Fidelitas 2008 Merlot (Columbia Valley (WA))

  • Editors' Choice
  1. $25
Youthful and tart, this tangy and fruit-driven Merlot opens with berries, pie cherries, baking spices and hints of cocoa, smoothes out in the midpalate and thoroughly seduces by the time it gently fades. Delicious now, but give it another four or five years and it may dazzle.  — P.G.  (5/1/2011)

Fidelitas 2009 Malbec (Columbia Valley (WA))

  1. $35
This tightly-wound, compact wine needs some extra breathing time, but will reward patience with expressive notes of blueberry jam, wild herb and pungent clove. The balance is just right, the tannins polished and firm, and the acidity keeps it fresh and lively.  — P.G.  (7/1/2012)

  1. $25
This pure Cabernet is stubbornly unyielding at first, showing a lean and herbal expression. But with extensive (overnight) breathing time, the fresh and bright flavors of boysenberries and cassis pop into focus, the tannins are ripe and polished, the finish still tightly wound but textural and long.  — P.G.  (7/1/2012)
