Firestone 2001 Reserve Merlot (Santa Ynez Valley)
-
$30
A lovely wine, and the warm vintage conditions ripened the fruit to near perfection. It’s succulent in sweet cherry, mocha, leather and oaky, vanilla-spice flavors, and the tannins are rich and soft but complex. A bit soft, and might even benefit from a few minutes in the fridge.

Firestone 2001 Syrah (Santa Ynez Valley)
-
$18
A dark, intense Syrah that stains the sides of the glass, and smells and tastes as rich as it looks. Bursts of white pepper shoot out, with underlying notes of blackberry and plum, smoky oak, sautéed mushrooms, espresso and herbs. It’s dry, but complex and assertive.

Firestone 2009 Riesling (Central Coast)

$13
California Riesling seems to be making a comeback and if it is, it’s thanks to inexpensive but wonderful wines like this. It’s dryish to off dry, with beautiful acidity and delicious flavors of citrus fruits, green apples, pears, honeyed jasmine tea and vanilla bean. Just beautiful for drinking now.

Firestone 2002 Reserve Chardonnay (Santa Ynez Valley)

$25
Oodles of flavor just ooze all over the palate, flooding it with tropical fruits, tangerine, spices, smoky oak and vanilla. It’s wrapped inside a rich, creamy texture. As sweet as a gooey dessert, yet it’s totally dry.

Firestone 2000 Gewürztraminer (Santa Barbara County)
-
$8
Opens with explosive Gewürz aromas of mingled spices, wildflowers, citrus (especially tangerine rind), and vanilla. The flavors are strong and pronounced, suggesting peaches, sweet lemon, gingery spices and grapefruit. A modest touch of sweetness makes it round and soft.
