  • Best Buy
  • Online Exclusive
  1. $14
Les Collines vineyard provided the fruit, a thick, honeyed mass of dried apricots, peaches and papaya. Dense yet retaining its acid-driven structure, it’s a rich, seemingly endless dive into a vat of sweet nectar. The residual sugar (9.6%) and alcohol (10.5%) are in perfect balance.  — P.G.  (11/1/2010)

Forgeron 2007 Primitivo (Columbia Valley (WA))

  • Online Exclusive
  1. $30
Nothing shy here; this 100% Primitivo, from the Stonetree vineyard, lists the alcohol at 15.5%. Dark and musky, lightly earthy and soft, it’s a luscious bottle which blankets the tongue with rustic (in a good way) black fruits and exotic spices. For the finishing kicker, barrel aging brings in dark chocolate. Rare and wonderful.  — P.G.  (11/1/2010)

Forgeron 2006 Zinfandel (Columbia Valley (WA))

  • Online Exclusive
  1. $30
A candidate for the best Zinfandel in Washington, this firm, claret-like offering is loaded with sweet berries and spicy, pine needle penetration. Supple and smoky, it threads a dark streak of iron ore into the polished tannins. Very fine winemaking.  — P.G.  (11/1/2010)

Forgeron 2009 Vigneron Select Chardonnay (Columbia Valley (WA))

  • Editors' Choice
  1. $25
A luscious cascade of apples, pears, honeydew melon and sweet pineapple fruit is set against lip-licking acidity. Just one third was aged in new French oak, the rest used barrels. There is a hint of heat in the finish, but the wine delivers a good long ride across the heart of the palate.  — P.G.  (9/1/2011)

Forgeron 2006 Cabernet Sauvignon (Columbia Valley (WA))

  • Cellar Selection
  1. $30
Winemaker Marie-Eve Gilla adds just 5% Malbec to the blend, “to fill in the middle fruit,” she explains. Just released prior to this tasting, it was still quite tight, with a hard shell around the black fruits. Dried herbs and sweet grain highlights add complexity, and the mix of vineyards (Pepper Bridge, Klipsun, and Alder Ridge) brings the best characteristics of…  — P.G.  (11/1/2010)

Beautifully aromatic, this weaves exotic scents of coffee, smoke, black cherry, cassis, moist earth, lead pencil, and toffee into a lush tapestry. Smooth, fruity, flavorful, soft and balanced, it finishes with lightly grainy tannins that are as supple as leather.  — P.G.  (9/1/2011)

Forgeron 2003 Syrah (Columbia Valley (WA))

  1. $30
This is 100% Syrah, delicious, fragrant and loaded with spice. It’s a blend from several different Washington AVAs, and has just the right mix of citrus, pepper, smoke, spice, acid, toast and tannin, bringing in elements from all of them. The fruit is sweet and brambly; the herbal elements are just right, adding notes of leaf and tobacco. There is a whiff of smoke…  — P.G.  (11/1/2007)

Forgeron 2008 Vigneron Select Chardonnay (Columbia Valley (WA))

  • Editors' Choice
  1. $25
A thoughtful blend from vineyards representing the Wahluke Slope, Yakima Valley and Columbia Gorge AVAs. Complex and nuanced, this weaves together peaches, apples, honeydew melon, pepper, cinnamon and a vein of clean, wet rock. Great structure suggests this could be cellared for another five or six years.  — P.G.  (4/1/2011)
