Fra Guerau 2006 Red (Montsant)

  1. $15
A big, warm, baked wine made from Merlot, Garnacha, Syrah and Cab Sauvignon. It has baked aromas in front of a full, balanced palate that hits with dark fruit, molasses and warmth. Does a good job of blending ripe black fruit and chocolate with proper tannins and acidity. Drink now.  — M.S.  (10/1/2011)

Fra Guerau 2006 Rosé (Montsant)

  • Online Exclusive
  1. $14
Spicy strawberries on the nose lead straight to a full-bodied, totally balanced and healthy palate that is eager to deliver zesty raspberry and tea-like flavors. Not hard to enjoy, with peppery rosé tannins and good length. Freshness is key to this wine, and as of June 2007 it was drinking perfectly. Imported by Freixenet USA.  — M.S.  (12/15/2007)

Fra Guerau 2005 Red (Montsant)

  1. $16
Controlled, slightly leathery, honest and nice overall. A mix of black cherries and herbal aromas ride the bouquet, while the palate is earthy and shows plum and mild tomato flavors. A good mouthfeel that’s more racy than outright heavy allows the wine to cleanse and not overwhelm what you’re eating.  — M.S.  (4/1/2009)

Fra Guerau 2002 Red (Montsant)

  • Best Buy
  1. $12
This well-priced red from Tarragona shows a glimpse of what the Montsant region can produce. The nose is all red fruit, with a splinter of oak. The palate is chunky and easy as it deals blackberry and raspberry in spades. Chocolate and mocha on the thick finish should please the sugar mavens.  — M.S.  (6/1/2005)

Fra Guerau 2005 Rosé (Montsant)

  • Online Exclusive
  1. $12
This Freixenet-owned label from Montsant opts to use Syrah, Tempranillo and Merlot in the blend, and hence the wine is very red in color and rather weighty. The nose has some green character and earthiness, while the palate deals stewed plum and apple skin. Putting it nicely: It's not the freshest piece of fruit in the bowl.  — M.S.  (7/1/2007)

Fra Guerau 2007 Rosé (Montsant)

  • Online Exclusive
  1. $16
Harsh and burnt-smelling, with beet-like flavors and too much body weight. One could argue that it gets better as it airs out, but nobody should have to wrestle with a rosé just to get something likable from it. Past its prime with nowhere to go.  — M.S.  (6/1/2009)
